I know! I wasn't really worried it was going to go all wrong :0(

I'd forgotten just how much I love Vlad and his quips about impaling people, lol!
I really liked the way the story ended and the lead in to the next one. Looking forward to it.
You know, I really liked seeing how badass Vlad is. We know he is but Frost showed it very descriptively this time. And his sardonic nature is surprisingly appealing.

Me too. I also liked how his powers seemed to grow and develop in this book because he was finally beginning to accept his emotions and let them out rather than holding them in.

Yes. He was so evil. I'm really glad he got his just desserts here.
All I can say is that if (view spoiler)

When I thought she was going to be raped, I paused for a minute and wondered whether I could read this. As it was, it was bad enough.
I was really, really disappointed when I thought Maximus had betrayed Vlad and Leila. I really liked him and was just put out when he first showed himself with Szilagvi.
Vlad really grew emotionally in this story. Being able to outwardly profess his feelings for Leila was a big step and then accepting that she could be more of a partner than someone he had to protect. I loved how he used her in the meeting with Marie. It was dangerous and brilliant.

Another aspect of the story that struck me was Leila's relationship with her father. Hugh Dalton is such a jackass! He doesn't deserve Leila. Marty is more of a true father to her.
Hugh was a jackass before she became a vampire so I guess we shouldn't expect much more from him. I wonder how he'll be now that his leg is healed.
That scene with Marie was masterfully written, full of political intrigue with two formidable adversaries outwitting each other. Marie is no slouch so this was a big coup. As much as I don't like Marie, I'm in awe of her.

I was really caught off guard to learn Mircea's identity! Vlad's rarely this surprised so I didn't feel so bad:)

I actually like her a lot. She's tough and merciless but honest and fair. She's the kind of person who would stab you face to face rather than in the back, lol!

I was surprised too! Now I'll be comparing him to the similar character in Karen Chances Cassandra Palmer series, lol!
Speaking of Mircea, it was fascinating to learn more about Vlad's first marriages. What did you think about his decision to not pursue whether she committed suicide or was pushed by Szilagyi?

The problem is that Cynthia Holloway does the audio narration and she's so awful. I listened to the first 3 and now I'm going to start the spin-off series (they intertwine) and thankfully, its got a different narrator.

I thought it was a good decision. He's made peace with it and moved on with Leila. Pursuing it would mean she still had a hold on him and it would undermine his relationship with Leila.

Oh, no. How does this woman keep getting hired.

I felt similarly. By the time he got to her grave, he realized he was at peace. It was wonderful that Leis was included in that process.

I really don't get it. Although I know that some people love her. No idea why - her accents are terrible and her intonation sucks!
Vlad must battle with a centuries-old enemy whose reach stretches across continents and whose strength equals his own. It isn’t like Vlad to feel fear, but he does…for Leila, because his enemy knows she is Vlad’s greatest weakness. As friend and foe alike align against him—and his overprotectiveness drives Leila away—Vlad’s love for his new bride could be the very thing that dooms them both
