Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) 4.5 Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson (198 pages)

I chose this based on Jennifer Wardrip's 5 star rating. I commented on her review with my thoughts about the book. I thought it was very well written, and captured the voice of a high school kid perfectly.

I finished The Sweet Far Thing (819 pages) on September 30. I was going to use it as part of 2.25, but I am going to use it for 1.20 instead. Stephanie read this book for 25.1: Choose a Young Adult book from each of any three different genres featured here at Wild Things. Post a discussion topic (or contribute to a discussion) about the one you enjoyed the most.

I would not have read this book for that part of the challenge just because Stephanie used it as a fantasy and I have so many fantasy books that I would read first.

message 260: by Angela Sunshine (new)

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) 3.5 Whittington by Alan Armstrong (208 pages)

I thought this was a well written book, and deserved the Newbery Honor status. My only issue with it, is that the story is a retelling of folklore and other written copy. I have given it a full review as well.

Beth (bll1010) | 86 comments 3.20
Winner - The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. 307 pages.
Honor - After Tupac and D Foster by Jacqueline Woodson. 160 pages.

I agree with the choices. Both books were excellent, but I think I slightly preferred the Graveyard Book. It was a more detailed story, but the simplicity in After Tupac is part of the appeal.

Mandy (mldavisreads) | 210 comments Read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close for task 4.15. (368 pages) It reminded me a lot of A Curious Incident of a dog in the Night Time, which I think did well with a young adult audience. Also the narrator's questioning of death, of relationships, of existence, are all things that could resonate with a YA audience. I was never sure of his age, he always lied about it, I was surprised when I read on the back cover that he was only nine.

I finished Witch (361 pages) by Debbie Viguié on Tuesday. This will complete my 2.25 for V. The other 2 books are: Fire by Kristin Cashore (C: 461 pages) and Blood Promise by Richelle Mead (M: 503 pages).

Michelle | 52 comments For Task 2.25 I read Over Sea, Under Stone by Susan Cooper, Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer, and Sons from Afar by Cynthia Voigt.

For Task 4.5 I read The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, which was rated with 5 stars by Misty. We're currently discussing the book and I think she convinced me to give it an extra star.

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) 4.15 Ella Minnow Pea A Novel in Letters 208 pages

I read this book some years back and thought it was really clever. It's written as letters by inhabitants of a small island to each other. They are a well educated group who use very "flowery" writing and big words. But as the book progresses, their gov't begian to outlaw use of certain letters of the alphabet until they're down to just a few. Ella manages to save the town. I think the wittiness would appeal to teens.

And I'm done! Woo hoo!
