Rebekah (bekalynn) | 43 comments My first roll, got 3 landed on Peppermint Patty and Marcie, selected a book from the list given me, Thrice the Brinded Cat Hath Mew'd. Rolled again and got a 3 and a 6. Landed on Bustop. Based on the roll I had to land on that stop, I go to the 3rd shelf and the 6th category which is Romantic Suspense. Then I click on the link to a shelf called Romantic Suspense that has over a 100 pages and pick a book off that list, my choice?
Am I right or do I have to do two rolls, one for movement on board and one for shelf selection? Do I use the list with the link or use a book off my own Bookoploy Shelf, because I don't think I have a book on my own Bookopoly shelf in that category.

2 rolls, Rebekah. One for board movement and one for shelf determination. If you don't have any book from your bookopoly shelf that fits the shelf you rolled then you're free pick any book that fits.

Ok this time I rolled double 6's which is Peanuts/art
I did't think I had a book on my list to fit but found Just Kids on there which does happen to be on my list and was one of my options on my last roll so I will go with it.

Any particular reason you're posting your movement here, Marie?

Just wondering if I was to answer a query?

Coralie | 1658 comments Just checking, I have landed on a shelf square and rolled 5,6 which is non-fiction and psychology. Can I read anything on that shelf even if it's fiction?

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments I finished reading the first book for bookopoly! Yay.
I'm behind on my reading schedule. I thought I'd have got more time to read this month, but it looks like I'll have some more time soon.

Yay!

It's been a rather crazy week and an ever crazier is coming right up so you're not alone in having NO reading time, Bah!

Ed Lehman | 417 comments ok...I landed on Jail Just Visiting.
I see someone else posted a task for that square but I don't see any link for it. What am I supposed to do?

Ed, go to post #1 of this thread and read the section on moving around the board (part B). You will find the task under 4.b.

Ed Lehman | 417 comments I just realized that after "completing" my task and moving on and requesting three books for my next move... that I misread the task. I had to read a book with a word in the title with three syllables... but I misread it as at least three syllables in the title. Embarrassed by my sloppy reading. What should I do?

Lol that's ok, Ed. We're not very strict in Bookopoly; we'll let you go with a slap on the wrist ;p

Just be careful with reading tasks next time :)

3. Beagle Scout Snoopy leads your troop out of the woods, Get out of Jail free (may be kept until needed but use only once)

I'm guessing that I don't have to read for this square so I can just hold the card for later use and roll again. Please confirm. Thanks!

Amy | 2231 comments My day for questions...

In the law and order theme park, this is an option:

4. Read a mystery/crime book which has been adapted onto screens

Can we read any book from a series that has been made into a film or films? I was going to read Cross the Line which is the latest in the Alex Cross series. There have been a few movies made from this series already.

Oops! For one of my earliest rolls, I've been listening to the audio version of Into the Beautiful North, and loving it. But even with airport trips to get and deliver my kids for the holidays, my time in the car hasn't been as much as it needed to be to meet the 12/29/16 deadline. I'll keep at it. Meanwhile, do we have a penalty I have to pay for missing the deadline?

9:37 AM 11/14/2016
Rolled 6 - P: Sledding - Book requests
made request 11/15/16 5:18 AM (???)
Marina chose, 11/15/16, 9:13
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts One and Two
Stone Mattress

Ed Lehman | 417 comments I'm playing Bookopoly in conjunction with my Reading with Style group...and that group announces categories each quarter...next one starts March 1. So..at some point I will be completing books in the Winter quarter and waiting for categories to be announced for Spring before I can choose books for my Bookopoly shelf.
My question is, once I land on a square...how long do I have before I request the property owner to choose 3 books...or on non-property squares...to choose the book required by that square?

message 83: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9028 comments Mod
Hi Ed, sorry about the delay, I don't usually get to online much or at all on weekends.

There isn't a rule about how long between rolling and picking/having books picked for that square. The only condition we made for Bookopoly (we try to make it as stressful as possible whilst still being fair to everyone) is for Repossession of Property which are:

One of your Properties may be placed on Notice of Repossession IF:
a. there has been no movement on your Bookopoly thread for 4 weeks; AND
b. request on owned property has not been responded to within 48 hours without reasonable excuse.
If you manage to finish your book before anyone bids and settles on your Repossessed Property then you get to keep your property.

So as long as you've got some movement on your thread within 4 weeks AND responding promptly on requests on your property, you're fine.

That is the advantage, Ed, of planning several books (up to three Bookopoly spaces) in the game...always having one going. Just don't make all your rolls on the same day as that will defeat the advantage.

Marie, you can be on up to three spaces at once. So if you're not already on 3, you can make some more moves while you're reading your in-jail book.

I've also just been sent to jail, Marie :(

Of course, I have a 1,139 pages tome on my bookopoly shelf lol

While I'm lamenting on the impossibility of finishing this book in 4 weeks, the reason I've put the book there was because it's actually one of my LOST book which I wasn't going to read this year UNLESS it's somehow got picked for Bookopoly... bahaha, just my luck :p

I started it last night though & managed 10 pages... not too bad so far but it's just the beginning.

The Memoirs of Cleopatra by Margaret George which has been on my tbr since Jan 2011 for the obvious reason of intimidating size despite the encouragingly high avg rating of 4.17 :p

I've read a little bit more last night and told myself that if I just read 40 pages per day, I'll be done by the end of the month lol
Am sure, however, when I get into the story, I just might devour it very quickly... just have to get to that part of the read :)

You're right Tien! This month I've started The Dragonbone Chair saga (first book is more than 600 pages...third one over 1000) which has been on my shelf since before I came here in GR :D
And now I'm well ahead of the first book because it's a compelling story!
