Juanita (juanitav) | 744 comments This category will be fun for the hunt. I bought a book years ago (in hardcover no less) called The Summer We Read Gatsby. Maybe 2017 is the year I finish it.

Looking forward to seeing your suggestions here.

Sara I stumbled across a book called Winter Solstice in the bookstore a few weeks ago. It has great reviews so I will probably read that.

I remember my 5th grade teacher reading Summer of the Monkeys to us and I loved it.

Dani Weyand | 374 comments Winter's Bone
I really enjoyed the movie so lll probably pick this

message 4: by Charline (new)

Charline (charline84) | 29 comments After doing some research on here (and google!) I discovered a couple I liked the sound of Prodigal Summer and The Summer Book and I think I'll chose the latter because I love the cover, it looks so idyllic.

message 6: by Chelsea (new)

message 7: by Krista (new)

Krista The Summer That Melted Everything.

message 8: by Lindi (last edited Nov 22, 2016 04:33PM) (new)

Lindi (lindimarie) Here's to HOPING that The Winds of Winter finally gets released in 2017. I'm not holding my breath though.

message 9: by Megan (new)

Megan (mghrt06) | 546 comments Open Road Summer is what I have picked out!

message 10: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte Weber | 270 comments After I read Voyager for my book that takes place into two time periods, I'm going to read Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon.

message 11: by Fannie (new)

Fannie D'Ascola | 438 comments I think I'll make a double here with Fall of Giants for a book set in wartime and Winter of the World for this category.

message 12: by Anne (new)

Anne | 1 comments I've chosen A Fall of Marigolds

message 13: by Therese (last edited Nov 21, 2016 02:14PM) (new)

Therese | 133 comments Fall of Giants is perfect. I have that on my reading list and wanted to read it anyway. Thank you.

I got so excited that I forgot I already read that book. So Winter of the World will be perfect especially since I just recently bought it.

Me too! Getting into this series has been such a good exercise in patience.

I'm going with The Autumn of the Patriarch because I've been itching to read more Garcia Marquez.

Lindi (lindimarie) Fannie wrote: "I think I'll make a double here with Fall of Giants for a book set in wartime and Winter of the World for this category."

I'm doing the same thing - except using Fall of Giants for my 800+

I had to do some shuffling, I really can't count on The Winds of Winter to be out in time ;)

message 16: by Juliebean (new)

Juliebean (juliebean512) | 145 comments I was thinking of The Summer of the Swans. I don't think I've ever read that.

message 17: by Heather (new)

Heather Somarriba (heathie) | 10 comments Here were my ideas:

Summer Sisters by Judy BlueSummer Sisters
Summer Affair by Elin Hildebrand (chick lit) A Summer Affair
A Hundred Summers by Beatriz W A Hundred Summers

message 18: by Marianne (new)

Marianne | 64 comments I have Winter's Bone and Prodigal Summer on my bookshelves, yet to be read.

message 19: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rhartz) | 25 comments The Winter People by Jennifer McMahon is a great mystery/thriller for this one. Highly recommend that read!

message 20: by Cheri (new)

Cheri (jovali2) | 242 comments I'm trying to match my TBR list to the topics when possible. For this one I've come up with The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down: A Hmong Child, Her American Doctors, and the Collision of Two Cultures by Anne Fadiman. It's supposed to be really good!

message 22: by Shannon (new)

Shannon | 0 comments I'm going for The Summer Before the War . I have heard good things about it,

message 23: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Carey (nancycarey) I am going to read Winter. I read the first 3 books this summer and I needed a break in the series and also I needed to finish the rest of this year's challenge.

message 24: by Michele (new)

Michele Aylesbury (majkmom4) Rebecca wrote: "The Winter People by Jennifer McMahon is a great mystery/thriller for this one. Highly recommend that read!"

This one has been on my TBR since I found it weeding shelves at the library. So I'll probably go with it (unless GRR finishes The Winds of Winter!)

message 25: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (wanna_read_all_the_books) | 1 comments I'm going with Spring Fever by Mary Kay Andrews since I've had it on my kindle for flipping ever and haven't gotten around to reading it yet.

message 26: by *Layali* (new)

*Layali* (layalireads) | 5 comments Here are a few that I've come up with for fantasy fans:

The Summer Dragon by Todd Lockwood (#1 in a series)
Winter by Marissa Meyer (YA, #4 in a series)
Rebel Spring by Morgan Rhodes (YA, #2 in a series)
When the Heavens Fall by Marc Turner (#1 in a series)

message 27: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments Ooh I forgot the fourth lunar book is winter! I'm on the waiting list for the third one so it'll be perfect timing! I can read it early in the new year

message 28: by Tricia (last edited Dec 07, 2016 01:39AM) (new)

Tricia | 125 comments I am reading The Winter Rose

Others I have read are:
The Winter Sea
Prodigal Summer
Summer Sisters
New Spring

I also really enjoyed In the Fall

message 30: by E.F. (new)

E.F. Dodd | 2 comments A Fall of Marigolds was great.

message 31: by JoAnna (new)

JoAnna | 84 comments Agree - A Fall of Marigolds was excellent! It would also fit in the immigrant/refugee category.

message 32: by Alix (new)

Alix Boyer (alixboyer) | 9 comments My First Summer in the Sierra by John Muir

message 33: by Mary-Megan (new)

Mary-Megan Two that were already mentioned that I would second as good reads are The Winter People, and The Winter Garden.

If you're looking for romance, there are a ton that have summer in the title:
One summer trilogy by Susan Mallery is: Summer Days, Summer Nights, and All Summer Long
Summer Brides would also work for a book by multiple authors
Second Chance Summer
Summer in Napa
Last Kiss of Summer
One non-summer romance is Autumn in the Vineyard

The first few titles are used by different authors so that'll double or triple the chances of finding a book. These ones listed I've read or I like the author so I know they're enjoyable romances.

message 34: by Caity (new)

Caity (adivineeternity) | 164 comments In my continued obsession with long books, I'm contemplating Winter's Tale for this. I think at least half the books I've listed so far for the challenge as a whole are at least 700 pages long.

Oh dear.

message 35: by Kearston (last edited Dec 23, 2016 11:09AM) (new)

Kearston Wesner | 28 comments The Kindle version of Flat Lake In Winter by Joseph T. Klempner is on sale on Amazon today for $1.99. Legal thriller; pretty solid reviews.

message 37: by Rhanda (new)

Rhanda (galsgotmoxie) | 7 comments I cannot recommend Tove Jansson's The Summer Book highly enough. It is the type of book that is so still and small and quiet that you think, "What is this? This is nothing." And then it hits you square in the chest with its everything and never leaves your heart.

I read it this year for the island prompt, and I wish I allowed myself re-reads for this list so I could read it again.

message 38: by Bev (new)

Bev Smith I have The Winter People on its way

message 39: by Kim (new)

Kim Williamson | 49 comments I'm reading The Winter of Our Discontent. However my friend told me about a book called The Winter of Our Disconnect that sounds intriguing also. I just haven't been able to locate where I can read it for free.

message 40: by Jaime (new)

Jaime | 9 comments I am using this prompt as an avenue to continue my way through the Outlander series. I happen to be on Drums of Autumn so that will be my choice for this prompt. Then I will probably take another break. I love the books, but they are a commitment. And I tend to need a bit of a brain break between books.

message 41: by Emma (new)

Emma | 96 comments Just realised I had The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet for the 'been on your reading list for too long' one, so I've swapped that round and wall use it for this instead

message 42: by Lora (new)

Lora | 4 comments I just finished Prodigal Summer for this category. I love Barbara Kingsolver's writing style! This was not my favorite of her books that I've read but I can't help feeling her descriptions and being totally absorbed in the story. If you love nature, this is a wonderful book. Prodigal Summer

That book is incredible!!! I loved it!!

message 44: by Steven (new)

Steven | 47 comments I'll be doing the The Winter People book for January group read. Firs t time doing the monthly book!

message 45: by Doreen (new)

Doreen Pfost I recommend The Winter of our Discontent by Steinbeck. I read it last year and found it really absorbing. It takes place around 1960, so if you liked the vibe of the Mad Men TV series, you might like this.

As for me, I plan to read Silent Spring by Rachel Carson. It's been on my TBR list forever (to my chagrin). The time has come.

message 46: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 10 comments I read The Winter People for both this prompt and the January book of the month!

message 47: by Emily (new)

Emily Huang | 11 comments I'm new here. I started reading The Winter People, which was a little confusing at first. So many perspectives! But, I'm getting less and less confused. haha

message 48: by Pioup (new)

Pioup | 54 comments Yes yes yes to The Summer Book, it's my favourite adult Tove Jansson.
I'm currently reading and enjoying Les Fiancés de l'hiver, but it hasn't been translated, so that's only for french reading fantasy lovers.

message 49: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (atwistedlime) | 18 comments I had already read Winter People so I am reading A Midsummer Nights Dream.

I was just about to ask if plays count. Glad you thought of Shakespeare as well. I'm planning on The Winter's Tale.
