Hello, fellow DH addicts and challenge lovers. I am starting this thread to get you guys involved in developing challenges for next year. Please feel free to post thoughts on what you like or don't like about the challenges and some suggestions.

I will try to get the 2017 challenges posted the last week of December.

Heather LiteratureChick (literaturechick) I like how the challenges have different levels of how many books you can read in the time. I like how you have a couple of ways the theme can be interpreted as far as choosing our books goes.

I like some of the ideas in this.

There is also the read across the genres challenge.

I was also wondering about how a "create your own adventure" type challenge would work? If you had to take one element from the previous book you read and choose your next book based on that theme and so on down the line.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) I enjoyed the book covers one for 2016. I am two books away from completing this years challenge.

Those are great recommendations. Thanks, ladies!

✿ Natalie ✿ | 428 comments I'm not actually going to add anything that hasn't already been said, but I agree with what the 2 ladies said above!
I always enjoy that the challenges have different levels for different speeds of reader. I like this as I'm not a fast reader overall so it gives me choice for where I'm at! And I felt the Cover challenge was a great idea.
I also like the paranormal dangerous heroes challenge option :-)

✿ Natalie ✿ | 428 comments I've got a suggestion if you've not done the challenges up already Danielle. If you are thinking of running the Cover Love challenge for a second year, then my suggestion would be a 'Tattooed hero' cover as one of the options. There are lots of books with dangerous tattooed heroes on the front! And I noticed quite a few people did a bonus cover option as a tattooed hero too.

Hi Natalie. I definitely haven't done the challenges yet. Will probably end up doing those between December 27-30th.

Thanks so much for the feedback. I'm glad you guys enjoy the challenges! It means a lot to hear back from you.

*hugs*

Heather for the Create Your Own Adventure Challenge, do you want to write up something that you think would work and post it here? We could add this as a six month challenge. Thanks!

Sure I will give it a shot. I will start working on it and should have it posted here tomorrow.

Heather LiteratureChick (literaturechick) DHASG Dangerous Hero Create your own Reading Adventure Challenge

For this challenge, start off with a book in which the cover or title represents your favourite Dangerous Hero. From there, choose an element from the previous book (the cover, the author's name, or a word in the title) and choose a book that represents that element in the cover or a word in the title and so on for all your book selections.

Example: One of my favourite Dangerous Heroes is Rhage from BDB series so I will use his book as my starting point with The Beast (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #14) by J.R. Ward . Then I will choose my second book as Her Every Fear by Peter Swanson because there is blue in the cover. My third book could be a book that features a character named "Peter" after the author, a book in which a character is afraid, or a book with black in the cover, or a book with black or blue in the title.

Just explain what element each book meets from your previous book selection. For the first book you can explain why the Dangerous Hero you chose is your favorite.

Reading Levels:
1. Extreme Adventure: 20-30 books.
2. All Inclusive Adventure: 10-20 books.
3. Staycation Adventure: 0-10 books.

Hope this works, Danielle.

Netanella | 195 comments This is an awesome challenge - Great idea, Heather! I can't wait to start reading and posting for this sidewinder challenge!

message 14: by Netanella (new)

Netanella | 195 comments Danielle - how about reviving the Justice League Quarterly Challenge that was posted for 2013? It's an awesome challenge, and my kids have become DC aficionados lately! (I was raised on Marvel, so I need to expand my graphic horizons...)

Hi Netanella. Could you explain what you mean by a Sidewinder challenge? Has the group had a sidewinder challenge before?

message 19: by Netanella (new)

Netanella | 195 comments i just made up the name sidewinder, because that's what I thought of when I read your challenge rules. One book leads to another book without any specific, pre-determined path (unless you really ARE a planner!). So the book choices can move sideways, sort of like a sidewinder snake.

Okay, that was kinda weird...

That sounds perfect actually. Danielle thought it would be good for a 6 month challenge.

I posted the challenge instructions for the DHASG Dangerous Hero Create your own Reading Adventure Challenge. Thanks for asking me to do this. It was fun. A six month challenge sounds perfect.

message 22: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t so what are we doing for the dangerous hero? It's kind of tradition as it stands but the new twist has merit and could easily be included as a choice or made into it's own multi-month or at your own pace challenge.

Either way we're out of time for much more discussion on it since 2017 begins in a few hours and I haven't seen the choice levels for dangerous hero yet.

Heather LiteratureChick (literaturechick) Should I go ahead and create the challenge? Should I post it as a six month challenge under yearly challenges or under monthly challenges? Or do I create a new folder for it? I am not sure.

message 24: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t i don't think it would work well for a one month challenge but what do i know. remember people can do any or all choices under the dangerous hero and if it seems to be popular choice pull it out as it's own challenge for the following year.

I posted it in the yearly.

I will be doing the Dangerous Hero Mega-Challenge as well. Working on that tonight.

Your challenge looks awesome, Heather. Thanks so much!

Netanella, I will do another Justice League Quarterly Challenge. Thanks for the suggestion.
