I was looking at this recently. and there are 4 others series related to this as well. One about her great grandma, her grandma, her mom and her daughter. None were written by her, but it looks like they were illustrated by the same oerson who illustrated these!

I read the Rose series, her daughter, by Roger Lea MacBride and enjoyed them as well. I haven't read the others.

I want to read The Martha Years about her great grandma cause it's in Scotland. I may have to make a libary trip sometime...

Camille (camillesbookishadventures) I've read the Martha Years, it was good! The Scotland setting is very well portrayed - I live in Scotland so I'm always a bit dubious about Scottish settings as they can be quite stereotypical.

I've half-way through the Charlotte Years and plan on reading the Caroline Years and then the Rose Years.

I just finished The Long Winter which describes a horribly long winter. Laura doesn't say it in so many words, but they came very close to starving because the trains couldn't bring in fresh supplies for months.

Amanda | 77 comments I just read my first Little House book of 2018. Better late than never, right? I just read On the Banks of Plum Creek in one sitting and enjoyed it much more than the other books in the series so far. I am looking forward to the next!

That is a good one, Amanda. I found the first two a bit too simple, but I really like the books with the older Laura.

Amanda | 77 comments I agree, Rosemarie! I'm home sick today and just read By the Shores of Silver Lake as well. I'm finding these later books keep my interest much more.

Amanda | 77 comments Happy 2019! I'm still making my way slowly through these. Is anyone else still reading them like me? I am just about to sit down and start The Long Winter (as my area is gearing up for the potential of some snow tonight)!

The Long Winter is really good!
My next book will be Little Town on the Prairie, sometime in February.

I am reading Farmer Boy right now, and will read Little Town later on in the year.
The Wilder farm was a prosperous place, mainly due to hard work and good planning. But they also managed to have fun sometimes too. I am amazed at how much the 9 year old Almanzo ate at one meal. I am sure the food was delicious.

Amanda | 77 comments I've read both The Long Winter and Little Town on the Prairie this year. I find that I'm liking them more than the earlier books. They are still sweet, but there is a lot more going on. I suspect this has a lot to do with Laura being able to remember a lot more about her own thoughts/emotions from this time period.

I feel the same way. The later books are a lot more interesting than the first two, as we hear more of Laura's own voice.

message 68: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 77 comments Exactly! It's making me want to read the end of the series much faster. I think I'm going to start reading These Happy Golden Years today.

Amanda | 77 comments I just finished The First Four Years! Have finally finished my box set.
