lethe | 241 comments About three weeks late, I finished Wuthering Heights. At first it looked like this was going to be a wonderfully over-the-top romp in the vein of The Monk, which I found highly entertaining, but alas, it didn't last. Over-the-top it was, but not wonderful at all.

The characters were all so hateful and loathsome they veered into caricature. I also thought the novel was tediously structured with its narrators, and ultimately pointless.

I much prefer Jane Eyre, and will definitely try The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.

Anita (anitafajitapitareada) | 1467 comments Lol lethe! I'm glad you finished it though! It is so interesting how people get such opposite feelings about the book even though they generally feel the same way about the characters. I also hated the characters, but loved the drama of the book :)

lethe | 241 comments I'm so sorry not to have liked it more! I wanted to like it, and I really tried, but no. Maybe I would have if I had been younger, but the Drama was too much for me now :)
