Rachie2929 | 30 comments My younger brother, who is in 6th grade, is practicing to take the ACT. Reading is his worst subject. This is mostly because he doesn't like to read very much, and reads books below his level with a lot of pictures, because he is easily bored. Do you know any good, interesting books that help improve both reading speed and reading comprehension?

``Laurie (laurielynette) Hi Rachie, maybe he would be interested in reading an action/adventure oriented book. Here are a few suggestions:

Follow My Leader

Five Boys in a Cave

Myst | 48 comments Would the The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, or The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn books interest him?

Perhaps White Fang or The Call of the Wild? The Swiss Family Robinson or Treasure Island?

Those are all reasonably short adventure books that may interest a boy.

I'd even go so far as to suggest Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone or perhaps The Lightning Thief since they're fun adventures and Harry Potter does have some pictures.
