Similar Books to The Snowman?

Hey so I am a huge fan of the book The Snowman by Jo Nesbo and was hoping I could find some people to recommend books that are similar to it.

When I google "Books like The Snowman" i only get other Nesbo books or similar Norwegian authors, but I am not looking for Norwegian books specifically, but rather books about a detective chasing a killer or kidnapper, with twists and turns and an unexpected ending.

*Books/Series/Authors I am already familiar with and therefore don't need to be suggested: Dennis Lehane and the Kenzie & Gennaro series, Mo Hayder, and all the other Harry Hole books.

I'm really hoping for some great suggestions here :)

there is a movie coming in November!

Hi Brandon. I just read the Snowman and loved it. I am also very interested in these murder/mystery type of books. I suggest you read JD Robb books that follow Detective Eve Dallas, these books are similar to Jo Nesbo's books. Another author I highly recommend is Harlan Coben: The Myron Bolitar Series is brilliant. I think the first book is Deal Breaker.

Hope these suggestions help. Enjoy!

Hello Brandon,

I just noticed your question. Here are some of my recommendations:

1. Mary Burton ~ The Morgan's of Nashville series and The Shark Files series

2. Peter Swanson ~ The Kind Worth Killing

3. Karin Slaughter ~ Will Trent series

4. Patricia Cornwell ~ Kay Scarpetta series

I enjoy Nesbo quite a bit, but, personally lean toward detective stories quite a few people feel are too slow, so if you want more action you might not like these authors:

Robert Wilson writes tense well plotted stories and does a good job taking the reader to foreign settings. His work is gritty and believable enough for a crime novel; Martin Cruz Smith is probably no longer writing, but his Arkady Renko series, about an honest police detective in the collapsing Soviet Union is one of my favorites; Phillip Kerr writes a somewhat slow paced but addicting stories about a German investigator during WWII, as do Luke McCallin and David Downing. I'd call their style "Nazi Noir". Alan Furst should be added to this list, his early novels are really good; I also came across Nick Herron recently who has a pretty good modern British spy series going.

I hope this helps. I know it's all a matter of taste, but still, I know the frustration of looking for the next good series that will work for me. Good Luck.

I just found this discussion from last year but a good recommendation never expires. I am hooked on Scandinavian Noir and I would try Jussi Adler Olsen's The Keeper of Lost Causes first in the Dep. Q series. Jorn Lier Horst's William Westing novels are great too.

Hey Brandon!
I happen to be a huge fan of Jo Nesbo myself and i have read almost all of his books.
I could recommed the books of Camilla lackberg which are on the same style but the main characters have nothing to do with hary Hole off course. Chack them out if you want simething kind of milder.
Also I suggest this book to anyone who is into this kind of writing: I AM PILGRIM. I think there should be no person on earth you loves crime and mystery books who hasn't read this!
