Knobby (knobbyknees) | 13 comments I just finished The Circle and it was.. different. The lack of chapter breaks and the structure that comes with chapters kind of messed with me at first. It was hard to find a way to stop reading it, even if I was tired, because there was no clear pausing point, which seemed like a good stylistic choice by the author since Mae is constantly bombarded with stuff to do.

I'm interested in the film adaptation due to the names attached, but probably when it's out in Red Box...

What did y'all think?

I agree it was a good stylistic choice. I found the story itself to be interesting, and also terrifying. It's not so difficult to imagine this happening in the future.

The problem with this book, for me, was Mae herself. I don't know...I've always kind of sympathized in one way or another with the main characters of the books I read, but I didn't like her and really didn't care all that much about what happened to her. I cared more about what happened to those around her - Annie, her parents, and Mercer. I know some of it had to do with the brainwashed state she was in, but she was kind of insufferable even in the beginning of the book.
