Beth (k9odyssey) If you have read Hemingway and would like to lead this discussion, please let me know.

Valerie Brown I just finished this yesterday - I had to read it early because of the way the library wait list worked out!

I won't give any spoilers, but I will say I enjoyed it. I had to look up some of the writers he mentioned, which added to the vingnettes for me. Also, I read The Paris Wife a couple of years ago, and that made me connect more stories of him and Hadley.

Beth (k9odyssey) I liked it too despite some elements a bit disturbing to me. Looking forward to some discussion once others have a chance to start reading the book.

Beth (k9odyssey) In the end, my biggest complaint about this memoir is the sad reality that there might not have been one story without heavy drinking being involved. I'm not against drinking and I do enjoy that glass of wine after work! :-P. However, the amount and frequency (24/7?) that Hemmingway and his friends/colleagues seemed to drink made ME feel hung over! Ugh. Perhaps the sub title should have been "Have Bottle, Will Travel". Seriously, it made me sad because they all were already or quickly on their way to a self-destructive life of alcoholism.

I know! I enjoy 'a beverage' (as my friend calls it), but I agree - how did they function on that much alcohol. How much creative energy/ability/output was lost due to all of that drinking they seemed to do.
