NetGalley

Feed Your Readers, the NetGalley Challenge

Duration: Monthly

How to Participate:

The NetGalley Challenge is designed to not only get you to read your NetGalley books, but to also advertise your reviews for others to see because after all, that's what NetGalley is all about.

Though you may pop in/out at any time, the NetGalley Challenge will run on a monthly basis so you are able to see progress being made.

1. At the beginning of the month, post any/all of the following:
a: How many books on your NetGalley shelf
b: What books are on your NG shelf
c: What your Netgalley feedback ratio is

2. During the month, read the NetGalley books that you can AND update your post with your reviews. (You can do this after each book or wait until the end of the month.)

3. At the end of the month, update your post and with:
a: What books you read
b: Link(s) to your review(s)**
c: Your updated shelf count
d: Your updated books to read
e: Your updated ratio

Then start a new post for the next month!

But Wait, There's More

Do you ever get so caught up in your reading that you don't want to stop to write your reviews?

Thinking about that, it was decided we need a "Review Weekend", once each month, set aside to write those reviews you've been not doing in favor of reading!

Review Weekends will vary randomly each month and is meant to be a time set aside to review. Take one, or both days and get caught up on reviews so you can spend the rest of the month reading!!

The next Review Weekend is set for Mar 18/19

**When linking your reviews, please link only to the book(s) here at GoodReads. At this time, linking to a personal blog is not allowed. Thank you!

Two books on shelf: Seeking Mansfield (Seeking Mansfield, #1) by Kate Watson Coming Up for Air by Miranda Kenneally

Michelle | 465 comments Not to a great start. So I requested Ensnared by Rita Stradling yesterday, but something came up that needed my immediate attention and when I came back (past midnight) I couldn't sent it to my Kindle anymore!

Its archive date is today but I thought that they let you get the book up to today :( guess not :/

I don't know what to do. I really wanted to read that one :(

Michelle's Book | 11 comments Hat has happen to me, so I usually put it on hold at my library and then read it. Once the publisher sent me a copy, but it is expensive to post on Netgalley for the smaller publishers.

Karen ⊰✿ | 16511 comments Mod
That's happened to me too. You can either wait and get it from your library, or send an email to the publisher and see if they'll email you a copy. Last resort is just send feedback from your netgalley shelf letting them know the situation and so you can't review it.

message 27: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3577 comments Lara - Sometimes I think it is better to read a book right when you are approved and let the others wait. I have tried reading the oldest books first and lost some interest in my newer ones by the time I get to them. If I read them right away, I know my interest level is still high.

Thank you guys, I'll definitely try to find a way to read before telling them that I can't review it (:

message 29: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Eeek, was just updating my start of month post and realized I have 39 books on my shelf. How did that happen?

I really need to be strict with myself and not request anything else till I at least get below 30..... unless I see a book I'm desperate to read ;)

Question, you know when you are sent the email to say your request has been approved and it gives you a publisher email address to send a link to your review, do you ever email them directly? I've always just submitted the links through NetGalley, should I also be emailing the publisher directly?

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Thanks, that's what I've always done. I just wondered when I was getting messages saying "please send an email to this address with the link to your reviews"

message 33: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Look. I suppose you can do that as well. But you aren't going to get penalised if you don't, I suppose is what we are saying :)

message 34: by Kristie (last edited Mar 04, 2017 04:12PM) (new)

Kristie | 3577 comments I hate to admit it, but most of the time I don't even read the emails. I just see the yes you have or no you have not been approved and move on. I know sometimes they request you not to review until a certain date or such so I should read the emails. I just don't.

I did get one email that said I was approved, but they wanted everyone that received a copy to join their email list. I promptly ignored that. I wouldn't have requested it if I knew I had to join an email list and you put it on my shelf, so I'm not going to lower my rating because you want to improve your numbers. No, thank you. Here is my review anyway.

Also, I have never emailed a review to the publisher. I honestly don't know if it's ever been requested of me because, as I said above, I don't usually read the emails.

message 35: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Most of the time I just skim the emails to see if I've been approved or not too. I just noticed in a recent email they'd asked me to send a link directly to a specific address.

I've never done it in the past but was wondering if it was just me and I'd end up on some blacklist.

message 36: by Michelle's (new)

Michelle's Book | 11 comments I usually just send it through the link on Netgalley. Sometimes when one of the PR people contact me I will send though the link they give me.

If I logged in to NetGalley every day, I'd never be caught up! I have to intentionally avoid it at times.

Kazen I check in most days, just to make sure I don't miss something... but I don't allow myself to request things until I let them sit in my mind for a day or two. Most of the time. ~cough~

Michelle | 465 comments Hahaha, I wouldn't recommend it! I usually guilt myself into reading the books that I have but sometimes I end up requesting five books in two days. . . I have no self-control!
