Catoo | 3 comments I'm looking for books that include: a strong female protagonist, a slow-growing romance where the heroine is an adult intelligent witch (whose powers are scary and hollow), or one who is only discovering her unique magical powers; She does not idealize a guy, but comes up with him at a distance (in the beginning). As for the guy: not a human being, but not an arrogant asshole of the over-ego; They will meet by chance; They will have to help themselves or one will need another for something.
If anyone knows books similar to this description, please write titles.

The love interest is a little on the egotist side at the start, but not as bad as some are, just like an ordinary guy who is slightly overconfident. They don't meet by chance, but they didn't know each other prior to the start of the book either. She is definitely adult, discovers she is unique, and reasonably intelligent (although not in a bookish, scholarly way).

Angie (anchilada) | 17 comments Have you tried the All Souls trilogy? This is my favorite witch/vampire series EVER. It blends paranormal with time travel/european history.

Diana is a scholar/researcher, the embodiment of intelligent. She comes from a powerful magic family but has no control of her power (integral part of the story). Matthew is a vampire and also a scholar. He can come off as pretty cold at times but has his reasons. He's not an asshole but can be arrogant in his protection of Diana.

A Discovery of Witches

Shadow of Night

The Book of Life

Kelsey (kmolesen) | 1 comments I would recommend Poison Study, though the protagonist is on the younger side and the man is human, but an unusual one. Also, A Darker Shade of Magic and its squeals hit all your points perfectly--the protagonist is technically the man, though anyone who has read the books knows that Lila is the real hero!

Dima | 4 comments Clean Sweep has a kick ass girl with magic (I don't think she calls herself a witch) who runs a magical inn.

•l Reads (alyn_reads) | 4 comments I agree with The Inkeeper Chronicals, by Ilona Andrews. There's also The Alex Craft novels, by Kalayna Price; and Cassandra Palmer series by Karen Chance

Dima | 4 comments There is the Kate Daniels Series by Ilona Andrews as well.

I have been resistant to the Innkeper Chronicles...I think because I'm so in love with Kate Daniels I was worried that the protagonist would be a letdown. Maybe I'll give it a shot.

It's different than Kate Daniels. but before reading that series, maybe it'll be a good idea to read the Edge series by Ilona Andrews too. Because George is a little boy in the Edge series and a grown man in the Innkeeper Chronicles

Dima | 4 comments There is also some magic in the Mercy Thompson series(who is a kickass character for sure) by Patricia Briggs and some in the Others series by Anne Bishop.

Kris Rafferty (krisrafferty) Fablehaven's a YA fantasy series that has a great female MC who is a "witch". Brendan Mull, I believe, is the author's name. Excellent series.

What!?! I read the Innkeeper series first... and like a year ago. I just read the first Edge book. When was George in the Innkeeper book? Sorry, I should just look this up myself but am at work :)

What about the Kim Harrison novels?

Mary | 1 comments George and Jack have a cameo in the first Innkeeper book - they pass Dina at the interstellar bazaar planet. They have a larger part in the 2nd book.

Amanda Van Parys (mandalaaxo) Sunshine seems like a good fit for your description.

tace | 36 comments Try the Soulwood series by Faith Hunter. It's a spinoff from the Jane Yellowrock series and stars a young woman brought up in a cult who breaks free--and has supernatural powers that no one can really identify. I loved the main character and her (very) slow build romantic interest

Jenny (tecsiederp) | 25 comments I'm currently reading The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco (and loving it) and it definitely has the witch with special powers part covered because she can raise the dead. So far any romance side of it has been really minor though, not sure if there actually is any.

Mom2boyz | 2 comments I really enjoyed under witch moon, it’s more story than romance

Ris | 12 comments Just finished Slouch Witch (the first in a trilogy) by Helen Harper and it matches what you're looking for almost to a "T"!

✔️Strong female protagonist
✔️ Witch with unique abilities (though she has not gone through formal schooling - as dictated in this world - she is exceptionally strong)
✔️Guy is also a witch (a strong one), who is neither an arrogant asshole nor over-egoistical (he's more uptight and follows the rules stringently, while she's sort of lazy and prefers to go around the rules)
✔️They are accidentally bound together for a period of time and in that time have to solve a mystery that requires both of their talents
