Maybe check out Jani and the Greater Game? If I'm remembering it right, the main character is more focused on tea, politics, and adventures than on how the mechanical stuff works. It's less romantical than Soulless, but younger characters. Not early YA like Leviathan though: I haven't read it, but reveiws say they're as young as 14, whereas Jani is more like 18-19-ish I think.

These are great words and one of the reasons I love my Kindle. You can just touch the word and it pulls up a dictionary definition for you. So cool.
