Eve (eveofrevolution) | 123 comments I think a few people are reading this with me this month, so I figured I'd start a topic for it!

I'm about 1/3 of the way through it, and as much as I've always loved the movie, I'm seeing some issues with the changes they made for the movie. I'll post my full thoughts when I'm done, but so far I'm really enjoying the book! I might have to watch the movie again to see if my memory is correct on the things that are bugging me.

Eve (eveofrevolution) | 123 comments I did! Just got back from vacation and haven't had time to write a proper review for it yet :)

I REALLY enjoyed it. Reading the reviews after the fact, there are a lot of complaints about how unrealistic/exaggerated it is, that a lot of it was embellished (by the ghost writer or by Abagnale himself)...but honestly, I don't care! It was super fun to read, and I appreciated how detailed it was with his methods of deception. I find that the movie glossed over details that explained how he was able to get away with things for so long, so the book helped shed a lot of light on his tactics and trickery.

YAY! So glad you liked it. I felt similarly about the comments. I found the book thoroughly engaging. And even if only a fraction of it is true, it remains a totally wild and unbelievable story.

I tried watching the movie after I read the book, but I just couldn't get into it. There were so many discrepancies in just the first 30 mins that I had to shut it off. The fact that the movie starts with him being "caught" in France was enough for me to pass on watching the rest. Shame too because I know many really love the film.

Yeah, that's why I tend to lean towards watching the movie/TV show before the book when I'm able to. Otherwise, I usually can't enjoy the adaptation because I'm so nitpicky about details!! A lot of the books I choose to read are because I enjoyed the adaptation so much, but then I usually come out of it preferring the book :)

That's an interesting perspective! I tend to always read the book, but maybe I should try your approach. Amazon prime has "me before you" and I've been delaying watching until reading the book but now I'm thinking I might watch first then go back to the book.

IMY It's hard to believe this is based on a true story when some of his shenanigans are like something only Hollywood would dream up or something. The kid had balls... or probably because he was a kid that gave him that fearlessness.

I wonder if it was his youthfulness or the time he was living in, or both?

Probably both. Things were a lot simpler back then. A lot of the things he pulled (at least the way he did them) wouldn't be possible today because of computers... but knowing how smart he is, who's to say he wouldn't have found other ways to game our current system? If he doesn't straight up have hacking skills, he'd probably figure out a way to bypass computers by disabling it or something.
