This might be a tough choice for summer, to read classics on the beach. Well, at least members far away from the beaches and those in the winter of the southern hemisphere may rejoice :) Of course, there are some classics that are not so sizeable to double as a weapon. Just kidding - for our next book of the month, feel free to nominate any classic novel that was your favourite or you wish it become one. The only thing you must watch for is that it must have a film counterpart. (that shouldn't be so difficult)

My nomination this time is Far from the Madding Crowd. I know I've already nominated it so many times before (and lost), but I truly believe everybody should read it at least once in a lifetime. Not to mention the last adaptation was gorgeous.

Robin (robinpickell) | 5 comments May I recommend Pride and Prejudice (it's my favorite of all time) or Captain Blood. I like Captain Blood for two reasons, 1) because the is awesome! & 2) it's mentioned in the Goonies

Ooo nice choices :) Captain Blood would be interesting!
Pride and Prejudice was part of our Austen project, but that was four years ago. Also, as those books didn't go to our bookshelf, it's fair to finally read them as stand-alone works, for those who do not want to go into the whole project thing :)

Robin (robinpickell) | 5 comments Thanx for the feedback. As for Captain Blood, I read it a while ago, and have marked it on my pick it for me shelf because I want to re-read it and I think I finally want to read the rest of the books in the series. (◡‿◡)

Elaine Pleunis | 3 comments I always love to read Pride and Prejudice, actually every Austen book except for Emma. And what about Frankenstein (Mary Shelley) or The Secret Garden (Frances Hodgson Burnett)?

I agree, for some reason Emma gets on my nerves too. & I love The Secret Garden. Have you seen the one with Colin Firth?

We did Frankenstein two years ago (here), but we didn't Secret Garden. The Tenant of Wildfell Hall would also be nice to read. So many good options now, every title sounds equally great.

No, I haven't, it definitely goes on my watchlist, because Colin Firth! :P At home we always had the 1993 version. ;)
