Coralee | 34 comments I decided to try all new cozies for my challenge and came up with my first book, "Pall in the Family" by Dawn Eastman. This is a cozy set in a small guest house in Michigan with paranormal elements.

Welcome to the challenge! Have fun! The Dawn Eastman series is on my list to get to at some point. It looks great.

Glad you're going in on the fun. Happy Reading

message 4: by Coralee (new)

Coralee | 34 comments I'm enjoying this book, but I was wrong - it's shared family home not a guest house. It seems to have a lot of fun characters: blending pets and psychics and police action. Halfway through and I don't know who did it, which is a definite plus! I find some series get so very formulaic that they lose their appeal after a while.

Coralee | 34 comments i was wondering if anyone had suggestions for craft series based around paper crafting or crafts for kids. I love to incorporate crafting into my lessons at school and am always looking for ideas. I have read a couple of scrapbooking mysteries which were neat.

Coralee | 34 comments Pall in the Family (A Family Fortune Mystery, #1) by Dawn Eastman

finished my first in the snoop challenge! I enjoyed the setting and cast of characters and would definitely like to read more of this series in the future. On to my next book!

message 7: by Coralee (new)

Coralee | 34 comments Stuck on Murder (A Decoupage Mystery, #1) by Lucy Lawrence

this is my second cozy and is a craft mystery - decoupage!

message 8: by Coralee (new)

Coralee | 34 comments finished my second book - a nice crafting cozy set in small town america. I think I'd like to travel to a new setting for my next so I'm going to research cozies set in different places and see what I find!

Coralee | 34 comments A Man Lay Dead A Man Lay Dead (Roderick Alleyn, #1) by Ngaio Marsh

my third cozy is by Ngaio Marsh, New Zealand's mystery queen.

message 10: by Coralee (new)

Coralee | 34 comments I think this mystery will fit the historical category as it was written in 1934 and is set in Great Britain. I was hoping for New Zealand to be the setting, but I suppose that would not have been as marketable back then.

message 11: by Coralee (new)

Coralee | 34 comments I enjoyed Marsh, but was dismayed by the use of the N word in the story - I know it was acceptable in the time period, but it is jarring to encounter it today. If you like manor mysteries - and I do - this author has a good way with creating an interesting puzzle.

Coralee | 34 comments Alpine for You (Passport to Peril, #1) by Maddy Hunter

My travel mystery will be the first in the Passport to Peril series by Maddy Hunter.

message 13: by Coralee (new)

Coralee | 34 comments I know what you mean. It's hard because you know it was just part of the culture but it is not something you want to be supportive of.

message 14: by Coralee (new)

Coralee | 34 comments Blah! The Passport to Peril series is definitely not my cup of tea! I gave Alpine For You Alpine for You (Passport to Peril, #1) by Maddy Hunter a 1 on the rating scale. I felt duty bound to get through this would-be cozy Travel mystery, but it was a slog! I get that the book is supposed to be a funny poke at a not so merry band of travelling, midwestern seniors and small town idiosyncrasies, but it was just DISMAL. I am not the least bit tempted to read any more about this cast of unlikeable characters :-(

message 15: by Coralee (new)

Coralee | 34 comments Mrs. Kaplan and the Matzoh Ball of Death (A Mrs. Kaplan Mystery #1) by Mark Reutlinger Mrs Kaplan and the Matzoh Ball of Death is my holiday pick. The first in a series by Mark Reutlinger, I'm hoping for fun and interesting characters and a little insight into culture and cuisine along the way!

message 16: by Coralee (new)

Coralee | 34 comments Fun story set in a senior's residence! No recipes but lots of Yiddish words!

After seeing your review of alpine for you maybe I don't want to read it. It's been on my TBR for awhile but sounds like it's not worth it.

I know there are people who like dry humour but i just found the stereo types boring and predictable - we've all seen the ugly American abroad and the snotty European serving staff so often! There is so much beauty and fun to be had in a new location, that's what I was hungry for! even the food was described as colourless and flavourless!

message 19: by Coralee (new)

Coralee | 34 comments My animal cozy will be Dead Canaries Don't Sing: a Reigning Cats and Dogs mystery,

message 20: by Coralee (new)

Coralee | 34 comments I enjoyed Dead Canaries Don't Sing. The veterinarian sleuth shares neat insights into caring for a variety of animals so I'm recommending it to anyone who wants to be a vet! Certainly the author left me wanting to know more about the characters and Long Island setting :-)

message 21: by Coralee (new)

Coralee | 34 comments The Vanishing Thief (Victorian Bookshop Mystery #1) by Kate Parker my cozy career mystery is an historical one set in Victorian London with a shopkeeper heroine - her business is an antiquarian bookshop. Woohoo! This was a really good one with all the elements of a good cozy mystery, interesting characters, romance, tidbits of culture and a quaint setting. I definitely want to read more! Kate Parker is the author and if you like the Victorian setting you should check out this series.

Coralee | 34 comments My next cozy is a culinary mystery set in a soup shop. I have read a lot of culinary ones and wanted to stay away from anything that might ruin my diet like chocolate, cakes, and cookies! I was very tempted by the Amish Candy series I found, but decided soups would be best! A Spoonful of Murder (Soup Lover's Mystery, #1) by Connie Archer

message 23: by Coralee (new)

Coralee | 34 comments the Spoonful of murder was a great read! All the things I love with a nice little town, interesting story, and characters I want to read about again. I actually did read the next one in the series, A Broth of Betrayal (Soup Lover's Mystery, #2) by Connie Archer A Broth of Betrayal, and it did not disappoint! Bonus recipes are included :-)

message 24: by Coralee (new)

Coralee | 34 comments OK I confess! I loved the Victorian bookshop series so much I had to go back and read the next one too! It was wonderful! A complex story that kept me guessing and a heroine who I enjoy. The second is called Counterfeit Lady - I wanted to post the cover but it isn't available in the search feature :-(

message 25: by Coralee (new)

Coralee | 34 comments I think I have covered all of the categories for the challenge now. Thanks so much for the chance to find some new series!

I'm glad to see you liked this series--I've added it to my list. I usually like any mystery set in a bookshop!
