Kelly | 985 comments In Ready Player One the author, Ernest Cline, sets the characters in a world that is struggling. To get away from reality people play a computer generated world called OASIS. One of the founders of this system, James Halliday, has died; but beforehand he created a challenge within OASIS where the winner gets his fortune and his company. After years of no one figuring out Halliday's first clue, a student named Wade Watt's finally found this answer.

Wade uses an avatar named Parzival in the OASIS and he becomes famous as people learn he is uncovering pieces of the challenge. Several others are also successfully working out the clues and they become friends on the system. However, a corporation named Innovative Online Industries (IOI) wants to win and gain control of the OASIS to made money off of it. IOI is acting unfairly and will stop at nothing. Wade must determine how to deal with IOI and try to get ahead in the competition.

The author tells the story from Wade's point of view. We see him grow and take risks. The 80's was Halliday's favorite time period and much of the game he set up with movies, songs and video games from then. This is a fun book and definitely kept me interested!
