Sara Nominate one book you would like the group to read for September’s monthly challenge a book of letters.

Post the title and author (please use the add book link for the book title, if possible).

Rules:
One nomination of one book per member. If you post multiple books only the first one will be counted.

You must list the title in your comment in order to count.

The top 6 most nominated books will be added to a poll which will open after the nominations have been closed and counted.

Nominations will close on July 24 (likely sometime in the morning Eastern time).

No other posts in this thread. If you wish to discuss the merits of the books you can do so on the individual prompt thread: /topic/show/...

Cheri (jovali2) | 242 comments I nominate one of my all-time favorite books, Ella Minnow Pea: A Novel in Letters! Here's the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ blurb:

Ella Minnow Pea is a girl living happily on the fictional island of Nollop off the coast of South Carolina. Nollop was named after Nevin Nollop, author of the immortal pangram,* "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog." Now Ella finds herself acting to save her friends, family, and fellow citizens from the encroaching totalitarianism of the island's Council, which has banned the use of certain letters of the alphabet as they fall from a memorial statue of Nevin Nollop. As the letters progressively drop from the statue they also disappear from the novel. The result is both a hilarious and moving story of one girl's fight for freedom of expression, as well as a linguistic tour de force sure to delight word lovers everywhere.

*pangram: a sentence or phrase that includes all the letters of the alphabet (less)

Wonderful stories from the letters, some humorous, heartbreaking, and thoroughly detailed customs that were compromised. Brilliant. A friend of mine used it for story research.
