~Streamlily~For those determined to fly, having no wings is just a little detail~ (streamlily) | 37 comments Ava growled as she heard the voice, it didn't sound aggressive so she decided to come out, she walked into the open reading area where she saw a girl under a table with a flashlight, she watched her every move and rested her hand on the axe casually and realized the awkward silence filled with her staring at the girl.
"What's your name." She asked curiously with a friendly but fake voice.

message 602: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) (How old is Ava? Adrianna's 14)
"What are you doing?" Adrianna hissed, noticing Ava move her hand to her axe. "Watch as I murder you with a flashlight," she announced sarcastically.

~Streamlily~For those determined to fly, having no wings is just a little detail~ (streamlily) | 37 comments Ava noticed her territorial position she was in, that could give off the wrong look. She crossed her arms
"Sorry." She muttered and stared at her in silence, she couldn't trust her, even if it was her fault that the book fell and announced her location. She felt like a bully, that is if the girl only had a flashlight and she had a weapon.

((She's 15 (: ))

message 604: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) ((Ok so about the same))
"I'm 'Dria," Adrianna said. "And you are?" She stared enviously at the axe. "Wish I had a weapon. All I have is this," she held up the flashlight, "and my pocketknife, but that hasn't been sharpened in years."

~Streamlily~For those determined to fly, having no wings is just a little detail~ (streamlily) | 37 comments ((Yep (: ))

"Amelia." Ava said and slouched
"I can show you how to sharpen it on a rock, it's pretty simple..." She murmured and glanced at a chair and sat in it, keeping steady eye contact but it wasn't creepy staring. She rested her hands in her lap, brushing her bangs back quickly.

message 606: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) "Honestly," Dria said, "I like having a dull pocketknife. It's non-threatening and safer for removing splinters." Dria suddenly realized she was still sitting under the table and moved to the chair beside Amelia.

~Streamlily~For those determined to fly, having no wings is just a little detail~ (streamlily) | 37 comments Ava's heart raced as Dria sat by her and she turned her head to look at her.
"I like having something sharp, good for hunting and protection, some people are crazy, some people lost it after the end...." She remembered the day the world ended, nobody was ready for it, she still missed her family...
"How do you get food?" She asked of pure curiosity.

message 608: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) "I steal it, mostly, but sometimes I find berries and things in the woods," Dria explained. "And apparently if you drop a hunting knife out of a tree where you are hiding onto an unsuspecting rabbit below, the rabbit dies and your knife's blade falls off." Dria blushed. "It was an accident though."

~Streamlily~For those determined to fly, having no wings is just a little detail~ (streamlily) | 37 comments "Rabbit is good in a stew, like hunter's stew, with carrots maybe potatoes and some greens." Ava murmured and smiled a little, imagining the scene that Dria described, she liked cooking, and hunting, she liked food in general really....

((Sorry it's short..))

message 610: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) ((Np. I do short ones all the time))
"Do you have anything with you?" Dria asked. "I haven't eaten since the storm began, and the water fountain isn't working." She bit her tongue, trying not to let on that it had really been several days more than that. She wasn't trying to beg for hospitality either, although that would be nice.

message 611: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) ((Sorry but I need to go to bed. Almost 11:30! I will probably be able to pick up tomorrow, so don't worry about posting when I'm not on. If you don't get a response for over a week, PM me, I probably missed the notification.
See you later!))

~Streamlily~For those determined to fly, having no wings is just a little detail~ (streamlily) | 37 comments Ava rose an eyebrow
"All I have is some bread and probably a little quail meat.." Ava didn't want to trust this girl but she couldn't let her go hungry, of course she had been eating well for awhile now. She crossed a leg over the other, ultimately securing the bottom of the axe's handle between the her two legs. She slipped the cross body messenger pouch off her shoulder and pulled out a tin with the food in it and slid it to Dria.

message 614: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) Dria took the lid off the tin and started to divide the food. Half of the bread she put in the lid, half she left in the tin. She did the same with the meat, but left slightly more in the tin. She slid the tin across the table to Ava.

~Streamlily~For those determined to fly, having no wings is just a little detail~ (streamlily) | 37 comments ((Sorry I didn't see this))

Ava felt a smile tug at the corners of her mouth but she ignored them and slouched back into the chair.
"How old are you?" She asked, trying not to ask deep questions just in case it bounced back to be answered by herself. She didn't need anything backfiring right now, things were going well and she hadn't been threatened by a human in.... A week! She stared across the open area into the children's room where all of the happy books were kept.

message 616: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) "Fourteen," Adrianna replied. "Can we eat in the dark? My battery's dying." She laid the dimming flashlight down on the table. "Don't you have somewhere to shelter other than a public building?"

~Streamlily~For those determined to fly, having no wings is just a little detail~ (streamlily) | 37 comments "Yeah, I can." Ava murmured and put a small piece of bread and meat together
"I have a house..." Ava hesitated and looked at the window, she could see snow piling up and wind whipping around.
"This was the first thing I saw after the electricity went out, all of the street lights guided my path, but I was thrown into darkness after they went out, I didn't want to get lost." She explained

message 618: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) "Oh, okay." Dria nodded along with Ava's explanation. "I came here after the electricity went out, too. Although for a different reason."

~Streamlily~For those determined to fly, having no wings is just a little detail~ (streamlily) | 37 comments Ava nodded, she ate some of the food in front of her and looked over to Dria, she didn't know how hungry she was so she would wait to put away the leftovers. She wondered how Olivia was handling things at home, she hadn't been able to find any animals due to the cold weather but she did find some herbs, the rare kind, the kind that your heart leaps at seeing, the kind that survived this harsh weather. She started to worry about Olivia but she would see her soon.... Hopefully.

message 621: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) ((Yes, sorry! Didn't see the notif.))
Dria ate everything on the lid, very aware that Ava was watching her. It embarrassed her to eat in front of other people, mostly because she was always starving. It made her remember her cat, Rose Quartz. She laughed a bit. "I had a cat, before the end," Dria told Ava. "Her name was Rose Quartz, and she used to eat like this."

~Streamlily~For those determined to fly, having no wings is just a little detail~ (streamlily) | 37 comments Ava smiled and thought about her past once more, why did the end happen? Why then?
"Do you want the rest of this?" She asked as she gestured to the rest of the food, Dria seemed hungry, even if she didn't trust this girl she couldn't be selfish, she wanted to help... Kind of. She wanted to find her books and leave, but with the storm outside, that wouldn't be possible. She wanted all of this weather to move on, she wanted a chance to survive, now she couldn't even find the vegetation she needed.

message 623: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) Dria finished the portion on the lid and shook her head.
"No," she said. "I don't want to take everything you have." She bit her lip. It had been a mistake to think about Rose Quartz. Rose and her three kittens, Granite, Sandstone, and Marble. "Gone," she thought aloud. "When the house-" Dria's voice cracked. "And my parents, and- Charlie and Hayden," Adrianna was almost in tears. She laid her head down on the table.

~Streamlily~For those determined to fly, having no wings is just a little detail~ (streamlily) | 37 comments Ava nodded and put the tin back in her bag with the lid, she slouched in her chair once again. She furrowed her eyebrows as Dria began talking, she sat up straight as she put her head on the table and watched her, Ava wasn't very sympathetic. She placed her hand on Dria's back gently
"The end was terrible...." She murmured, trying to be as sensitive as she could. She waited for a response in the silence, her mind swirled with thoughts, she didn't know how to respond with sympathy, how do you do that...?

message 625: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) "Keep it down," Dria thought to herself. "Why do I have to be so sensitive?"
She swallowed hard, wiping the faint traces of tears from her eyes. "There was nothing I could do," she whispered to herself. "It wasn't me."
Dria sat up halfway, propping herself up with her elbows.

~Streamlily~For those determined to fly, having no wings is just a little detail~ (streamlily) | 37 comments "No," Ava said, half to herself and half to Dria "nobody could have stopped the end, it was inevitable, it wasn't anyone's fault." She sighed and placed her hand in her lap again, the room was dark, silent except for their voices. Wind beat up against the window, the violent storm raged on, looking as if there would be no end. Ava looked at her hands and remembered how she always used to paint her nails, it was her hobby, every week there was a different color or design on her fingers, now they were plain, sometimes dirt would hide in under the nail after she harvested a plant or dug something up.

message 627: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) "But I still feel responsible!" Adrianna said, a bit louder. "Like I could have saved them. My family!" In a softer voice she added, "My cat." The wind and storms made Dria nervous. She took a breath. "Are you afraid of storms, Amelia?"

~Streamlily~For those determined to fly, having no wings is just a little detail~ (streamlily) | 37 comments "Everything happens for a reason, I just wish I could have been one of the ones that was taken." Ava said, she didn't like the world after the end, it was too easy to wither away.
"Not really, some storms are beautiful, it's like everything that was trapped inside the clouds finally escaped, it's free, ya know?" She yawned and thought about Olivia again, she wanted to get home desperately.

((Ava is an odd character, she's kind of dark... I'm not sure what I've created.. Hahaha..))

message 629: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) "I don't like storms," Dria confessed. "They make me afraid. It was a storm that did destroyed my house and family." Dria was aware of how open she was being to a stranger, but she wasn't nervous. She fully trusted Ava, despite having just met her.
"I was here actually," Dria said, feeling the painful memory rise in her chest. "I waited out the storm here, and when I went home-" she paused. "My house was burning and the police said that nobody had escaped alive."

~Streamlily~For those determined to fly, having no wings is just a little detail~ (streamlily) | 37 comments "I-I'm so sorry Dria..." Ava trailed off and stared at her with sympathy coating her eyes, she thought about it, having everything, just a normal storm comes so you hide out in the library, when you get back everything you had is gone, everyone you love, the house you lived in, gone.
"So you don't have a house?" She asked quietly and bit her lip, what would she do if Dria didn't have a home? She couldn't just bring her home! Could she?

message 631: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) "Well, I kind of live in my old house," Dria replied. "I'm not really supposed to be there; the structure's unsound. But not really." Dria wound a piece of her hair around her finger. She stayed there a lot, but had come to the library to ride out the storm. She looked over at Ava, remembering the countless times she'd slept underneath this table in the past year. In a sense, she lived at the library, at least during bad weather.

~Streamlily~For those determined to fly, having no wings is just a little detail~ (streamlily) | 37 comments Ava hummed and fiddled with her fingers, she got up and walked by memory to the plant section, she crouched down to pick up the book that fell when she first arrived. She stood up and let her fingertips glide over the books again, unfortunately she didn't remember Braille, but simple words became clear after deep thought, she picked out a book about exotic plants and another about poisonous plants. She smiled when she realized the one that had dropped was a "Plant Taste Tester" cook book, standing with her three chosen books.

message 633: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) Adrianna laid her head down on the table and contemplated going back to sleep.
((Sorry it took so long. I kept forgetting.))

~Streamlily~For those determined to fly, having no wings is just a little detail~ (streamlily) | 37 comments "I wonder when this will clear up." Ava murmured and laid her books quietly on the table as she walked over to the window, staring into blankness, the snow and wind flew around violently, thrashing the trees and plants. She watched in silence, she was glad she found the library before it had gotten worse.

message 635: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) "I hope it does soon," Dria replied. "I won't be able to find my supplies until it thaws." She remembered, briefly, that she had tucked some things into the basement of the structure. "If the snow doesn't make it cave in," she murmured.

~Streamlily~For those determined to fly, having no wings is just a little detail~ (streamlily) | 37 comments Ava nodded and wandered to the main desk, or so she thought, she tripped over something in the dark and fell flat on her face. She growled at herself and sighed, picking herself up and walking more carefully over to the main desk, she made it without falling again and drifted her fingers over the desk, she felt scissors, a stapler and an opened drawer, it felt like someone had scavenged through it already.

message 637: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) Dria whipped her head towards the window as a loud crack came from outside. Several seconds later, glass and cold air exploded inward as a tree branch hit the window.
"AMELIA?" Adrianna screamed, running in the direction of the main desk. She felt like she was going to be sick. The storm was bad enough, and now there just had to be falling branches. She stumbled, praying that she didn't fall and catch herself on broken glass. There was no telling how far the wind had carried the shattered pieces.

~Streamlily~For those determined to fly, having no wings is just a little detail~ (streamlily) | 37 comments Ava turned to the window with a sharp glare, as she did she saw the snow stop, the wind and the storm was gone, the temperature rose and the snow melted, but the tree still laid indoors.
"Dria? What just happened?" She murmured as the girl ran to her side.

((If you got the PM the storm just stopped, everything is over and the power is back. I can change the post if you want a few more posts with the storm but I just wanted to let you know.))

message 639: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) ((No, it's fine. I got the PM a few hours after))

"I don't know. I've never seen a storm stop that quickly." It was still dark, although not as dark as before. "It must be at least forty degrees in here now. During the storm it was what, fifteen?" Dria looked in wonder out the window.

~Streamlily~For those determined to fly, having no wings is just a little detail~ (streamlily) | 37 comments Ava glanced around
"It's a bit of relief huh?" She commented on the temperature, making eye contact with Dria she thought about Olivia, it would be a perfect time to get back home! She should probably go before something else happened.

message 641: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) "We could go outside," Adrianna suggested. "We could go somewhere else or just part ways." She thought that while she was here, she might as well get a book. She walked over to they Young Adult fiction section and returned with a book.

~Streamlily~For those determined to fly, having no wings is just a little detail~ (streamlily) | 37 comments Ava nodded, she didn't really want to lead this girl to her home but she felt bad parting ways
"I could show you a good place to get food? Then we might meet again." She murmured under her breath, she thought of the people who deceived her before, stole her supplies, hurt her, left her for dead, she didn't want to repeat her mistakes again.

message 643: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) "Sure!" Dria said cheerfully. She grabbed her bag from under the table. She picked up the book and flashlight and stuffed them into the bag. Dria put the straps over her shoulders and started to walk towards the entrance.

message 644: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) ((Hello there?))

~Streamlily~For those determined to fly, having no wings is just a little detail~ (streamlily) | 37 comments Ava smiled and walked to the door, opened it and held the door for Dria.
"It's not always fruitful but it's better than nothing." She said as she remembered her past visits to this field.

((I'll find the place and post))

message 646: by Laine (new)

Laine (laniedragon) ((Okay))
Dria smiled back and followed.

Alexander smiled as he walked into the library, seeing it for a moment as it had been, so many years ago. The deathly silence still hung around, as did the veil of dust. Clouds of it lifted as he made his way through the rows of shelves, wondering; quite in a world of his own.

message 648: by [deleted user] (new)

John stomps into the library and puts out a cigarette on his boot. He tosses it out the door before letting it shut behind him. He makes his way to the books and starts aimlessly wandering the rows, looking for a book on wood carving. "How in the heck can anybody find somethin' in this place?" He mutters in a thick southern accent.

Snapped from his reverie, Alexander looked up. He himself had been thinking the very same: any signs had long since faded or broken, and the library had scarcely seen organization for years. "I'm not sure one does," he called out, voice light with the well formed English of Oxfordshire. "It's a fine night, though, and I'll help you how I may."

message 650: by [deleted user] (new)

John jumped a bit, startled that he wasn't alone, "Well hey there! Now...just to clarify. You ain't one of them phantoms are ya?" He let out a loud chuckle. "I'm only kiddin'...and thanks for offerin' your help. Now where are you in this maze of dust and paper?" John continued to stomp through, taking big steps.
