Adam Omgitsreallyhim I just finished reading book 1. I intentionally didnt watch the series, as I found the book more deep and I preffered to imagine the characters my own way. I now watched some episodes of the first season and Im not rly happy with the way the characters are portrayed. Do you think I should continue watching, or will it just ruin the image of the characters thats in my head ?

Daniel Wusowski I did it the other way around: Watched season 1; got hooked and read the books.
That way, I thought the characters were exactly the way they should be.

But either way, you have to continue watching the show. If just to see the mystical creatures portrayed.

Hannah Kelly I guess the first question is how old are you? If you're a young teen then no I don't think you should. If you're and older teen that's for your parents to decide. And if you're an adult? Well have at it I guess. It looks really good don't get me wrong and I've heard it follows the book really well but it's just not for young people.

Vickie If you are an adult, I would say watch all of them. I have read all of the books so far, and although I don't care for some of the casting, I do like watching the series. It gives me another perspective.

I almost always think it's better to read the book first before seeing any adaptation. Only rarely (so rarely that I think they are the exceptions that prove the rule) is it better to go the other way. GoT's adaptation isn't one of those rarities.

Besides, if you avoided the TV show to read the first book, then I think you've got something in place. Stick with that.

I did the same. Honestly it made me like both the books and TV show even more.

Book 1 follows the TV show so closely, there is very few things that are changed. Going forward though, the difference between the books and TV show start to stack up.

I'd recommend you watch the TV Show after you've finished each book (Like read book 2 then watch season 2).

There are more characters in the books but there is also some extra stuff in the TV show like Cersei and Jamie scenes.

Carolina Velasco Read the books! The show is great, but you loose so much of the story. I filled in many gaps for my husband who did not read the books.

Daniel Wusowski The book works on a level that the show leaves out: The books explain what happened in the past. And that is a lot.

But the show though ... It's so good. The producers do not feel obliged to copy the books 1:1; they have their own ideas, which correspond with the books, but are not in there. The talks between Varys and Petyr alone are so good.

±õ²Ôê²õ I've read all the books and at least in season 4 they start to change somethings from the books XDD but that doesn't take the AWESOMENESS of the books or show :)

if you want you can see the show ^^ its great... but the books have more details and infos AND THINGS PLOT TWISTER that i know that aren't going to appear in the show T^T

books are better i think (SPECIALLY Storm of swords XDD)

and again there is the age issue: the show has a lot of violent/gore/sexual themes shown so if you are less then 10 maybe you shouldn't see. If you are above let your parents decide. If you are an adult just do what you think its best X) as Hannah says :) (message 3)

Adam Omgitsreallyhim Im 26

Laura Herzlos Well, I think that if he read the books, watching the series has nothing to do with age. The books have very graphic descriptions of a few things that we may find inappropriate for kids/young teenagers (violent/gore/sexual/etc.), so putting image to it means nothing after reading that. Even though the show added some scenes, they also toned down and removed others.

It's kind of your choice. Reading the books will keep you from being surprised by the series, as you will almost always know what will happen (almost). On the other hand, the series is pretty well made and worth watching (in my opinion, most actors are just awesome), even though most of us (book readers) usually rant about the changes made in adaptation that we don't like.
