So it's like a writers block but for books?

Is it just me? I totally get in these funks where I can't DECIDE on a book to read and I start three different ones and NOTHING.

Ugh.

Tanya (tanya23510) | 24 comments Definitely not! I hate it when I get these book blocks, sometimes they seem to last for months, it's so frustrating :( I've found that unless I have another book that I am really excited to jump into as soon as I have finished the one I am currently reading, I just sink into the book block :/

Same!! Sometimes I can go a while without feeling a book too so I have no desire to read or when I do it just feels forced and not pleasurable.

Do you have a specific genre you turn to when that is the case?

Tanya (tanya23510) | 24 comments Uhmm, good question... I usually turn to easy and quick reads, like a Rom-Com type or a self-help type of book. I also just tried an Audiobook for the first time which got me out of book block!

I definitely stick on audiobooks pretty hard since I work in an office. I think that helps me keep a flow as well.

I typically like to go into Non-Fiction when I am feeling a bit stuck like an autobio or bio on someone, or self help, sometimes even like beauty/health sort of books as well. Those tend to help me get out of the funk! Or something a little more fantastical. not necessarily magic or fantasy but something that is a little more exciting.

Karen GoatKeeper (goodreadscomkaren_goatkeeper) | 100 comments My book blocks are often when I've read so many of one genre that I'm just bored with the format. It makes the titles of any book almost distasteful. My cure is to grab a short children's book, especially a picture or early chapter book with lots of pictures.

Tanya (tanya23510) | 24 comments Of course! I never thought if that! It does seem to be after reading the same genre for a while for me too! Can't beat a good childrens book to cure a book block 😉

So true!! Too many of the same genre puts me in a daze. Never realized that!

Excellent cure!

Jennifer | 25 comments I'm totally in a book block right now! Actually since about August, I just can't get into anything I have tried to read. I have been reading The Husband's Secret for over a month now and I'm not even half way through it. Usually I can read 1-2 books a week depending on length and I can't even get through a measly 250 page book.. ugh!!

I've resorted to listening to books just so I can feel like I'm reading lol.

John | 76 comments I have had them too. For me audio books are a major help though. It seems particularly helpful for exercise because will be listening to something and once I hit play and start running my mind starts to relax and get into the book.

The hardest for me is like what some of you shared about not being into a specific book. I may have 3 or 4 books on deck but I am trying to be disciplined and explore other types and the book I have open I don't really enjoy so It seems like forever to get through it. One of my biggest enjoyments is marking "read" on my GR list and when I go more than 7 days without doing that I feel empty inside!

Kat (4408) | 11 comments Audiobooks definitely help. I'll play any one and it gets me back in the groove.

My problem is that I'll stop somewhere randomly and then, unless I carve out the time to go back to it soonish, it becomes impossible to keep reading. So I might return to it months later... :( Haven't found a 'cure' for this.
