I didn't understand why Irene was opening up to Steve after he had decided to leave Irene to go on an apparent suicide mission to Venus. It might have been interesting to develop the relationship. And that development could have provided the basis for Irene to open up to Steve. As it was, it felt somewhat like a betrayal for Irene to share information critical to the safety of the Martians.

John if you want to know the end of the story. You will have to read the sequel "Descent to the hell in venus" in this novel Alfonseca tells the mission of Steve McDunn in Venus.

Ah. I tend not to read the questions and discussions until after I finish the book and then read each question and answers when I am ready to participate in that discussion, so I hadn't seen that yet.

Would make time to read the sequel!"
The sequel exists his title "Descent to the hell of Venus" particularly i like less more than his prequel, but if you know the deed of Steve in Venus i recomend to you. I love his saga og the Magic Jigsaw, the main problem of the Magic Jigsaw is that they are five books and you must read all of them in a cronological order, but they are really good especially "The secret of the black lake" (2), "The secret of field of Ice", and the second part of "Lost continent" (5) is very close to the Chronicles of Narnia, although in the last book they reach a tegnology more advanced that in the earth.

If anyone is reading the sequel, it can be discussed here, or they can add threads within this folder for the discussion.
