Paul 21 Tyrion III

We see how poorly the Night's Watch is commanded and trained. in addition to not having enough men and the men they do have as the bottom of the barrel the leadership is totally worthless. We get another Jon/Trion conversation. And we see that winter is indeed coming.

Paul 22 Arya II

If we could all be the father Eddard is in this chapter. We see how patient and loving he really is toward his daughters. We see that Arya is difficult to deal with and we are reminded that Sansa is worthless so far. We also get to meet one of the better characters Syrio. he is like James Bond. suave and debonair. It is funny that people keep calling Arya boy.

Poor Nymeria, i hope the wolf is doing well and that she finds him. I haven't read the books so I don't know what happens with this wolf. I know we don't see it again in the TV show.

Paul 23 Daenerys III

We see Daenerys start to grow as a character and become the Khaleesi. And for the first time we see Viserys put in his place. That whiny witch. We get a prophecy that one day dragons will return and Daenerys feels something when she holds the eggs. At the end of the chapter we find out she is 14 and pregnant.

Paul 24 Bran IV

We learn from Old Nan a lot of history-The First Men, The Children of the Forest, The White Walkers, The Long Winters. We also learn that she is Hodars great grandmother. I didn't see that coming at all. We get a surprise visit from Tyrion who does his best to help Bran with plans for a saddle that will allow him to ride.

Paul 25 Eddard V

A lot goes on between Ned and Pycelle. then Ned and Arya and finally Ned and littlefinger. A lot of plot building and intrigue and creepiness with Pycelle and littlefinger. We learn that Cersei is out of Kings Landing when a lot of bad stuff happens

Paul

message 7: by Paul (new)

Paul 26 Jon IV

We meet Samwell for the first time. Poor Sam. Life is tough for him but Jon takes it upon himself to stand up and protect the week. We see some strong leadership in Jon. He wants everyone to become the best they can.

Paul 27 Eddard VI

We start off with some small council bickering and not getting along. We get some more of Ned investigating what is going on in Kings Landing. He finds Gendry just one of many bastard children from King Robert. Ned still doesn't understand what Jon Arryn was killed for but he is getting closer to finding out.

Paul 28 Catelyn V

I have to admit that the Catelyn chapters are starting to wear on me a bit.

She is on her way to Winterfell after leaving Kings Landing. Her party goes into a tavern and who do they run into. Its Tryion. The very person she thinks tried to kill her son. Catelyn cannot decide which is more satisfying: the sound of a dozen men drawing their swords or the look on Tyrion Lannister’s face.

Paul 29 Sansa II

Another thing to admit. I really don't like Sansa and her chapters wear on me as well.

We get a bit of the tournament and a lot of Sansa all doe eyed over different knights. Near the end of the chapter we do get the history of the Hounds injury and a lot about the Mountain

message 11: by Paul (new)

Paul 30 Eddad VIII

King Robert tells Ned that his life as king is not what he thought it would be. We see the last of the tournament and the hound win 40,000 gold. wow he is now kind of rich.

We see some arguing at the feast and some more intrigue.

Ned gets a visit from Varys and learns more about what is going on behind the kings back.

To me it seems that Varys and littlefinger are feeding Ned just enough info to get him to do things that these two guys want him to do. They are both playing him and he doesn't know it.

thanks for creating this thread Paul. I especially looooveee Bran's chapters, there's something so interesting about his perspective and some of the magical aspects.

message 13: by Paul (new)

Paul Bran's chapters are good. I still like Arya the best. And in the books you really see how much of a spoiled brat Sansa is.

Paul.

Britannia (pandorarabia914) | 9 comments I'm in A Clash of Kings and I still don't like Sansa...
What made me upset was what she did when Ned sat her and Arya down for a talk, and she tattled (don't wanna say too much, because I know we have some new readers here :))
I can understand why The Hound says such things to her; The Hound isn't disrespecting Sansa or foul mouthing her, but rather trying to get her to realize this fantasy world she wants isn't going to happen. I can't even believe she's still chasing after Joffrey after what's happened...

Arya is by far my favourite character (as well as Daenerys, Tyrion, Jon, and Ned), and she sometimes reminds me a little of myself but I absolutely adore the relationship she has with her father and Jon. Sansa reminds me of my 19 yr old sister (even though I am the oldest in the family).

For me, Sansa seemed to represent many of initial reader's expectations of ASOIAF, who expect the story to follow the typical epic fantasy types (ie. pretty people are good, ugly people are bad, good always prevails, etc.). However, she begins to realize this story is more like real life and therefore the good guy does not always win and the bad guys aren't always ugly men who wear black hats and twirl their mustache. Which is one of the many reasons I believe the series is so popular (especially as of late).

Hashmi Gor | 6 comments I feel Sansa tries to forget reality and would rather create her life as a fairy tale. Arya on the other hand embraces what she is and what she has, she sees what's there not what she wants to see. Absolutely love her chapters. Like the other readers on here Sansa is getting a bit irksome and Joffrey...what can I say...when does someone give him a good slap??

Jillian (randomramblings) | 24 comments Mod
Hashmi, didn't Tyrion slap him pretty good at the beginning? I wish someone would slap him again though!

message 18: by Paul (new)

Paul Tyrion is the only person to stand up and put Joffery in his place.

Nicci B (niccibee) | 14 comments I love Sansa's progress, especially on the second read when her naivety and princessy-arrogance are much less annoying when you know more of her future.

message 20: by Hashmi (new)

Hashmi Gor | 6 comments I'm not sure Jillian, I must have missed that bit but I agree with Paul, Tyrion is the only one not afraid of Joffrey. What do you think of the dog? No idea why he doesn't go against Joffrey, even though he is quite sarcastic to him! lol

Jillian (randomramblings) | 24 comments Mod
Hashmi I believe it was when Bran fell and was in a coma, and Tyrion said the nice thing to do was to go to Catelyn and Sansa and pay respects or something along those lines.

message 22: by Paul (new)

Paul I don't know what is going on with the hound. Although he doesn't go against Joffery you can tell that he dosen't like him at all. And seems to kind of like it when Tyrion stands up to the little punk.

message 23: by Hashmi (new)

Hashmi Gor | 6 comments That actually does ring a bell. I know he shouted at him but did he slap him? Never mind. I like the dog, he's not a straight forward character, although at this point most of the ppl in King's landing are quite difficult to pin point.
