There is a lot of activity here and many ways to participate.
BOTM (see item #1)
Quarterly Reads
Year Long Read:
TBR takedown 2020
Randomizer List
Special Events

Participation Points. You earn participation points for various activities. These are used for bragging rights but also for voting on BOTM and sometimes other things as well.

1. Every month we vote for BOTM around the middle of the month (15th). We go through the list by alphabet. We go through the entire alphabet of author's last names every 2 years. One book is picked by popular vote, one by randomizer. This year the randomizer will only be fed books that have not been previous books.

Participation points: How to earn

Because some have always read the BOTM, continued
BUDDY READ--If you've read both BOTM, you can choose one book from the current list for that month to read. All you have to do, is find one or more persons to read and discuss that book with you. That other person is not required to have read both BOTM. The person initiating the Buddy Read must have read both BOTM. Points earned, 3 points for reading, discussion, and review and 1 point for each person you get to join you in reading and discussing. The other readers get the 3 points if they read, review and discuss.

Quarterly Reads: Books over 600 pages. See 2021 Schedule
Annual Reads:

3. Hosting/Moderating: Please help me make this fun. See How to earn participation points.

4. generating a random list Book will get you a list, go to that thread and request. You will get 4 books. The explanation is there. Randomizer lists

Generating a list will gain you 5 participation points, reading and reviewing a randomised book will give you 2 participation points (3 for a Wish List book) and swapping a randomised book will cost you 3 participation points.

5. Reviewing 1001 Books
Post reviews here, 1000 Reviews
1 point for reading and reviewing other 1001 books. No points if you don't review. An index is available. Please check there to see if there is a previous review.
Another way is;
If you click on topic in the upper left it will alphabetize the list and then you can sort through to see if there is a previous thread. Add your review to that thread. See this thread for picture. /topic/show/...

6. Yearly challenge points
*You will need to start your own Challenge thread and keep track of points earned. Participation points will start over in January. You don't need to subtract points you use. No need to do that as Bookworm will do that on the spread sheet. You will check the spreadsheet for your available voting points. (the exception is when you buy a different random selection with participation points. Those are subtracted)

7. Other challenge opportunities Anyone that has a creative idea for a challenge is encouraged to go ahead and start it and post it in the folder for special events. We no longer have an active moderator to do this. Any volunteers?

8. The TBR takedown. You can join this in any month. Simply but together your list of books leaving out the numbers that have already been selected and you will be set for the next pick. TBR takedown numbers are randomly selected one to two days before the end of the month so that you can get your books ready. BUT DON'T START READING, until first of the month

Jenni is on storygraph (sprainedbrain) I’m sorry if these are silly questions... this is my first year keeping track of points. I understand that we get one point for reading a book from the list. I don’t usually write reviews on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ, but I give a star rating and mark them read.

Do I need to write a review here (like I do on Litsy) to get the points?

If so, do I just put the review on the book as normal, or is there somewhere within this group where I need to write the review?

Thanks!

There is a folder for 1001 book reviews. If there is already a discussion for the book, just add the review, otherwise start a new discussion in the folder.

Dianne | 225 comments Credit for botm is only if you read it that month correct? (Ie not if you’ve read it before and discuss it when it is botm)?

Correct Dianne, if read before but you join discussion, you will earn 1 point for discussing.

Jenni is on storygraph (sprainedbrain) Thanks, Kristel and Sushicat! I'm finding that if I get on my computer to look at group discussions I can find things much easier than on the mobile app.

The app is very limited, I don’t like it.

The app is not user friendly and you will get a better experience by finding time to get on the computer.

George P. | 701 comments I don't know what I need to do to get my participation points counted. I am still blank on the Google sheet.

George, I don’t see that you set up a topic for yourself. Please go here; /topic/group... and start your own folder. I will then add you to the links and points. You need to add your own points in. You earn points for participating in book discussions, fast points, reviews. Etc. You can back up your score all the way to the first of the year. Take a look at how others do it. Try to keep a running total that is easy to find. Hope this helps, if not, let me know.

I see that Bookworm has you with 5 points, I am guessing she gave you those for Randomized list. So you do have those points, but please set up your folder so we can keep track easier.

If you establish a challenge thread here; /topic/group... you will be put in the Standings thread.

Megan, yes you can. I am assuming you are referring to TBR takedown here at Reading 1001. Just leave #7 as a blank. You can start in February.

ANNOUNCEMENT: The rule that you must finish BOTM during the month (5 days give or take) is suspended for now because of COVID-19. You may have up to the end of the year to finish any books that are chosen during the time that our libraries are closed to us.
