I enjoy NCIS but have not stayed up to date with Season 13 (the newest season).

I would really like to watch NCIS: LA but I can't find previous seasons online without paying an arm and a leg per season.

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments First book chosen for the new year was the 37+ hour Pandora's Star. Turns out the audiobook has a terrible problem with modulation. Fortunately, someone said listening through headphones (or buds) makes it tolerable. That wasn't the plan, but downloading to transfer onto Nano. :( I'll have to pick something else to listen to via my Echo collection. I was 2 hours into this book and couldn't imagine finishing it with these issues. Sigh.

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments For 2012 readings.

The Gentle Brush of Wings
Good horror short story.
Heat Wave
Enjoyed, but narrator a little hard to understand early on.
The Three Musketeers
Great story. Much longer than what I read in high school. Narrator John Lee
Rocket Ship Galileo
Good story, worth the read, but not a keeper for me.
The Wide-Awake Princess
Loved it. Geared towards kids and adults.
Frankenstein
Good story. Listened to both Simon Vance & Dan Stevens
Kiss the Girls and Make Them Die
Thriller - lots of things are not as they seem
Storm Over Warlock
Really dragged for first half of book.
Unkillable
Revenge story. Ok story
The Importance of Being Earnest
Still great and funny play!

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments Ok, moving on, maybe I'll list books as I go. Currently listening to Darkly Dreaming Dexter . Has a lot of wry humor, which is unusual when the story is a 1st person narrative of a serial killer. Series (which I've only seen a few episodes) based on this.

Big fan of Dexter, on screen and off. Haven't listened to them, rather read, but enjoyed the whole series (oh, and I think the end of the novels was better than the TV series). Have fun!

message 29: by Stephanie (last edited Apr 26, 2018 06:44PM) (new)

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments Finished Darkly Dreaming Dexter. Totally loved it. Ok, I don't quite believe that the killer would know the mind of Dexter that well, but I moved on and enjoyed the story. Now I can justify watching the series this summer.

Took awhile to decide, what is the next book!? Nearly the end of the month, I decided on another older book in my collection. Another 2010 and in this case, a CD I own. So, on to A Darkness Forged in Fire. Book one of the Irone Elves (I have book 2 at Audible). I need to do at least one LONG book in May.

message 30: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments Finished Dead and Gone. Excellent book! Now I have to figure out where I put my Ipod so I can finish A Darkness Forged in Fire.

message 36: by Stephanie (last edited May 24, 2018 08:06PM) (new)

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments Finished Dead in the Family which was excellent. Then moved on to one of my older books. The Memory of Earth by Orson Scott Card sucked. I quit after 3 hours. This is religious fantasy, not science fiction. I feel like I wasted my evening. Anyway, I will try to find my Nano and return to A Darkness Forged in Fire. At least I got to knock off another of my old books. 2010 is almost done!!

message 37: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments Still listening to Sookie Stackhouse. Finished Deadlocked Now, a couple hours in to Dead Ever After. Plus i still have short stories and followup book. BUT, will be complete with this series this month instead of next. Yay!! Almost done with a series!!

message 38: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments Finished Dead Ever After today. So, now I have to finish the short stories and novellas. Yay!!

message 39: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments Finished Impact by Michael Wallace. I kept starting and stopping this book, but once I got into it, it was hard to put down. CIA military thriller.

message 40: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments Listened to The Three Musketeers by Alexander Dumas. Very excellent. I listened to the John Lee version.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 3289 comments Stephanie wrote: "Listened to The Three Musketeers by Alexander Dumas. Very excellent. I listened to the John Lee version."

I keep meaning to read this whole thing but I keep getting sidetracked.

message 42: by Stephanie (last edited Jun 28, 2018 06:28PM) (new)

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments Not unusual. I keep starting Moby-Dick or, The Whale, but too many interruptions. I'll give it a try again in September. I try to do 3-4 classics that I haven't read before annually. I typically enjoy the books but they usually require more concentrated attention. By September, I'll be making socks and/or a sweater so hours of time for that.

Finishing off some books that have been in my ipod for awhile. Currently There's Trouble Brewing and Jane Carver of Waar, both of which are audiobooks. Haven't decided on my next ebook.

message 43: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2749 comments The Whale is not to be underestimated. :P

message 44: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments I highly recommend There's Trouble Brewing by Nicholas Blake if you like murder mysteries. Really excellent. Written in 1935 by a man who eventually became a Poet Laureate (note, he is also the father of actor Daniel Day-Lewis).

Really enjoyed Jane Carver of Waar. Good action adventure. Lots of snark. Some gratuitous sex towards the end so maybe not something to give to give your 15 year old. I read on Amazon that this is basically a knock-off version of John Carter of Mars, but I haven't read that yet, so I enjoyed this anyway. :)

I scanned and converted the The Silver Needle Murder by Laura Childs. A little more formatting work today and then I can read it. Some of the books in this series have never been released in ebook, so I've been scanning and converting as I am unable to read them in print.

message 45: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments Finished Rocket Ship Galileo by Robert Heinlein. Juvenile science fiction. I recommend if you have a teenager.

Currently Closed Circles by Viveca Sten on my Echo, The Silver Needle Murder on an ereader and Bloodsuckers: The Vampire Archives, Volume 1 on the Nano.

message 46: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments I have completed the Sookie Stackhouse marathon. All books and short stories plus the follow up books are done! Now moving on to other goals.

This month is mostly anthologies and magazines. This month has many interruptions between street construction, outdoor work, death in the family and health issues. So, shorter stories work better.

Next month is my traditional western month. Mostly Louis L'Amour this year.

message 47: by Stephanie (last edited Jul 19, 2018 08:20PM) (new)

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments I'm kindof all over the place this month. Finished a magazine, finished a couple of Robert Asprin books. Reading another magazine AND listening to a book (True Fiction by Lee Goldberg (good thriller so far). I am in the last 2 weeks of my .99 cent Kindle Unlimited membership, so have a bunch of audiobooks to listen to in a short time. I even started another a Jessica Fletcher book (I'm reading a chapter each day) and another Jessica Lourey book (this series will finish next year).

message 48: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2749 comments Robert Asprin. There's a blast from the past. I read so many of those in late high school and early university.

message 49: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments Robert Asprin is even better in audiobook! I have one left that I own and then will have to wait on the others.

I am WAY behind on scifi magazines, so reading most current and working my way backwards. Easy with Asimov Scifi mag because there aren't any serialized options, but Lightspeed and similar I'll have to check first.
