Elizabeth (elizabethasimons) | 3 comments Hello!

I am interested in reading some of Kafka's work, mostly so that I will better understand references to him/his writing in other books that I read. I'm really not sure where to start or what would give me the best idea of his writing style/message/approach/personality. I'm considering the Metamorphosis, Amerika, and The Castle. Thoughts?

Thanks for your input!

Elizabeth

Marco Cupo (cuttlas) | 2 comments Elizabeth, my advice is that you should read: the metamorphosis, the trial, the castle and letters to my father; to begin to understand Kafka, in that order.

Elizabeth (elizabethasimons) | 3 comments Thank you! This is great advice. I have added The Trial to my list, and we'll see where that takes me!

Phillip | 54 comments I would recommend that you start with Kafka's breakthrough story - The Judgment, then Metamorphosis, then Rpt to an Academy & Investigations of a Dog,
and all these & more ++(3 excerpts from the Trial and The Castle - the best chapters!) are all in my translation:
Essential Kafka - Phillip Lundberg, Authorhouse, 2011
Letter to Father is not that important, Josephine the Songstress is the Last & very important story....
