Oh yay! New 2018 thread! I'm going to start the new year off with Little Fires Everywhere.

I'm going to start off the year with First Snow, Last Light. It's for my real life book club meeting on January 9th. I can also use it in the Zodiac challenge for Crab. I'm so excited about starting the challenge.

I'm not sure what to read for the book group. They're both interesting books.

For the monthly challenge, I'll read:
Dragon Teeth

I still need to complete these books for other BR's:
Black Powder War
Dragons of Autumn Twilight
A Game of Thrones

And then read the books that I haven't had the time to read for BR's:
The Lies of Locke Lamora
The Bear and the Nightingale

And I'm also reading:
Behind Her Eyes

I just finished the audiobook that I had started before Christmas, Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption. What an amazing story and my first 5 star read of 2018. I am starting The Dry by Jane Harper for my Aussie 2018 Author's Challenge and my alternate Group Read for Best Sellers.

I'm starting off the new year with Kushiel's Dart which is for a buddy read.

I am starting 2018 with Dune and The Little Friend. Two chunky books. One's a library book so I need to prioritise that one.

I'm going to start with Oathbringer. Not sure of it will be today though, I'm a bit tired.

I finished The Prince of Tides. It's great to start off the year with a 5 star read. Mind you, most of it was read at the end of 2017. I hope there are lots more 5 stars coming up.

I'll start The Colony tomorrow for the Zodiac challenge.

I started listening to The Atlantis Plague this morning and I am going to read the first chapter of March - both for my Zodiac Challenge. Then I will go back to The Dry for the rest of the evening.

I'm reading 12th of Never. I originally picked this up since its part of a series I'm reading, but it just so happens to have a rose on the cover so I'll be using it for Cancer - Stone category for the yearly challenge. Two birds one stone, love when that happens!

I am starting The Lost Village because I'm in the mood for a creepy read.

I finished reading The Dry this morning before I went to work. It was easy to understand why this was a run away best seller release last year. The story, set in a small town in Australia is a crime/mystery/thriller involving a present day murder/suicide and a 20 year old drowning of a 16 yo girl. The MC is a policeman from Melbourne who had grown up in the small town.

I'm reading Sightseeing - short stories set in Thailand. I enjoyed the first one - there's a pig named Clint Eastwood - lol!

I finished The Child Finder and rated it 4 stars. By page 115 I had a theory of what had happened, and I was pretty much right except for some details. Still the mystery was good enough. What really hooked me was how well developed was the complexity of child abuse. It was also my first book for the ZZ challenge.

I am starting now Into the Water for the monthly read and also second book in the ZZ challenge.

Yeah, a pet pig at that - he was rather cute and trotted around like a dog!

I would love a pet pig. They are apparently incredibly similar to dogs.

I finished "Anna and the French Kiss" in one day and am now reading "Cinder"...

Everyone seems to have gotten off to a great start this month. I was a bit sluggish with my reading in December, and it seemed like it was that way for others. It's only 4 days in, and people are finishing books like crazy. You'd think a toppler was on.

I feel the same Janice! I see people who have finished 2 or 3 books already! I'm still at least a week away from finishing my first book, but even if I hadn't picked a chunkster to start with I would still have not finished one.

I'm in the same boat, Peggy. I have got two books on the go, one is 900 pages long, the other is around 400. I am nowhere near to finishing either of them, although I'm hoping to possibly finish the shorter one by the end of the week or early next week if I get some decent reading time at the weekend.

I've put Oathbringer on the back burner for a while. I'm still reading Commonwealth on my kindle, had a few interruptions! It seems OK but I'm just not getting into it.

I started Into the Water this morning and am finding it very confusing.

3 books on the go and not loving any of them - I think it must be me :-(

I have two on the go, both over 600 pages but i'm enjoying them. I wouldn't worry about not having a book done yet. Just enjoy them. That's my philosophy for this year.

That's the perfect philosophy Sarah! I don't mind much now, but I'm sure I'll start to feel behind in a few days when the GR trackers tells me I'm X books behind my schedule.

Margo, a reading slump maybe? I've got 165 pages of Oathbringer done. It's not as fast-paced as the other books but I'm really enjoying it.

I actually do have one finished - The Roanoke Girls. It was my book club book which I forgot about til the last minute. Guess what - I didn't think much of it lol

As I already said (but don't remember in which thread) I didn't set a GR goal. I have my own goal of reading 15,000 pages this year.

How do you count the words you've read Sandra?

Sandra, the GR challenge also tracks your pages if you add the correct book. How are you tracking? Manually?

I control the pages (not words) I read in my Stats. In "My Books", after the list of shelves you find the Stats, of pages or/and books you have read each year

Oh! I wasn’t thinking of stats. Completely forgot about them for a minute.

I would say, 1300 p. is really to much for 4 days!!!

Margo - If you listen to audio books, you have to link an issue with actual page numbers to get an accurate page count in the stats. I used to do it, but it looked funny when I said I really liked the narrator in the book reviews for a hardback or paperback copy. I try to link what I actually read or listened to now, if I can. So - my page count is not accurate. I decided that I really did not care any more. If you track your page count manually, a 10 hour audio book will usually be equal to about 300 pages.

I know that you did not like it much, but for example, The Atlantis Gene audio book is 15 hrs, 44 minutes. The hardback is 452 pages and the Kindle ebook is 449 pages.
15 hrs x 30 pages = 450 pages.

Aditi, if you type your message in the textbox, on the top right it says 'add book/author'. If you click on it, you can enter the book name and it will appear in a link like this: Anna and the French Kiss.

This only works on the regular website though, not if you're using the app.

Thanks Cherie. Like you i don't really care about about page or word counts, it was just curiosity.
My hubby recommended The Atlantis Gene to me. The concept was good but it had to much action in it for my taste. I picked up The Atlantis Code for 99p on kindle for the challenge. It sounds like a take off of Dan Brown! It's hard to find books with Atlantis in the title that are not "adventure" stories. I will post the last bit on the appropriate thead, it was just that the book name triggered the thought ;-)

I finished The Atlantis Plague and gave it my 5 stars. This is a second book of a sci-fi trilogy.

I am about half way through March. This is Geraldine Brooks's version of the father in Louisa May Alcott's Little Women. I think I like GB's writing better than I like him, but he is growing on me.

I started The Postman for the monthly challenge. I just barely started and already like it. I have never read David Brin. I only saw one scene from the movie that Kevin Costner starred in 21 years ago, but it is definitely his voice I hear in my head as I am reading.

I have three other library books waiting for me to read, but I cannot decide IF I want to read any of them. Somehow, I managed to order three books for the same Zodiac Challeng task.

I went to the library today to pick up my hold of Batman: Nightwalker and as I pulled up the lights went out. I completely forgot that they close early on Fridays. So disappointing. I guess I'll be starting that one tomorrow night instead.

I'm still listening to Little Fires Everywhere for the group read too.

My library did the same thing, Kristie and I have gone twice to pick up books only to have to come back on Saturday.
