I'm hoping there are some readers out there looking to participate and make a pledge.

And, I'm hoping there are some Indie Authors who would be interested in adding their book to our list of books to review.

Shanmugam P. | 2 comments Lauryn.. I went through your blog. I see that you are mainly looking for fiction. But since you studied psychology and philosophy, you may be interested to read my non-fiction book which is based on both. :)

It is titled 'The Truth About Spiritual Enlightenment: Bridging Science, Buddhism and Advaita Vedanta'. You may not find some of the ideas that are in this book in other books of the same genre, because this book is based in some concepts used in ACT and other therapies as well as some philosophical ideas from Buddhism and Advaita Vedanta.

Here is the link to the book in ŷ: /book/show/3...

And here is the Amazon link:

Thank you,

Angel | 70 comments I always read, review and support indie authors/self-published. Weeping Well (rereleased July 2017) is my latest fiction novel written as a standalone and is an international mystery/ thriller/suspense/supernatural/multicultural romance set in 1989-2007. Feel free to add it to your indie book review list I have completed three goodreads reading challenges already and I'm on my fourth and I always exceed my reading goals.

Chele Smith Hi,
I released two books in 2017. One is a romantic suspense, Behind Frenemy Lines, Behind Frenemy Lines a fun romp through an old Hollywood scandal involving a famous president in the 60s, White House threats, two lustful agents, sex and mistrust.
The other is The Pearly Gates Phone Company, a spiritual anecdotal collection of mini-miracles in my life and those of my friends, inspired when my dad called me from Heaven a month after he died.

Luke J. Wilson (mrlewk) | 20 comments If you're interested in the early church fathers and what they said, then you may be interested in a book I've recently released. It's structured as a daily reading plan to make it easier to digest the often lengthy and heavy topics and texts 🙂 I submitted mine to you as well, it was released beginning of December 2017

Available on Amazon:
USA:
UK:

Here's the blurb:
---
Take a journey through the first 400 years of Church History in only 40 days!

Over the course of this reading plan you will read extracts and commentary on ten different early Church texts from a selection of some of the most influential Church Fathers:

Didache, Diognetus, Polycarp, Ignatius, Justin Martyr, Cyprian, Athanasius, Cyril of Jerusalem, Ambrose of Milan, and Leo the Great.

These people who came before us, those great men of faith, many of whom suffered persecution and martyrdom to preserve the Church and Christ's mission, bridge the gap between the Bible and the present day. They fill the void we sometimes wonder about when we get to the end of reading Acts or the Epistles and think, “what happened next? or “what happened to the Ephesian church after Paul left? well now you can read for yourself and see how God continued to grow His Church!

A Vampire's Tale focuses on my heroine Marisa Clements, a struggling writer. Unknown to her, an ancient and powerful vampire, Corgan Halton, has been influencing her life path. Corgan wants to tell his story, before ending his existence, and chooses Marisa to author his tale. But it’s complicated. Corgan can see the future. He knows Marisa will be instrumental in his plan, but his request will place her in grave danger. Marisa is unaware of the risks, she only sees Corgan’s story as a great opportunity. Will the story of a lifetime cost her life?

Black Barbie (authorblackbarbie) | 4 comments Betrayal can truly become the epitome of any friendship and it can also become the failure of someone's trust if one person allows another person with an opportunity to step in and try to divide them.

Money and greed will always become the part of any conclusion or it can be the reason for a person to defuse a battle and reconcile their friendship, along with a few of the other sustainable differences.

After being alone in prison for more than ten years, Cherry had grown to understand herself, along with an opportunity to redefine herself and understand the true definition of friendship. Desperate to have another chance at freedom, Cherry had thought about switching over and working with the feds.

No matter what we go through in life, some of us will never truly understand, or ever come to learn the definition of living. Mali was arrogant, conceited and all of the above. Mali was only into himself, and he was his main and only focus and concern. Without a care in the world Mali was living life, and he was living his life Scott free and without the woman that he had once considered as his wife.

Once we can regain our focus on ourselves, we can then come to learn that life comes with an abundance of opportunities. Living your dream will always seem as if it's extremely far, however, Shay had shown her entire community that dreaming is believing if you push yourself hard enough into whatever it is that you had chosen to do. Not only did Shay now have the money, but she also had the power and the respect that had come along with her new opportunity.

A.S. Aaron (d-journalist) | 2 comments Greetings to all!

I just started releasing my new series “D-Storm Journals on Amazon. There’s 4 books out so far.

The 1st 2 books are “i.T.i., and deal with a young female spy for the U.N., policing a world at ‘peace. (There’s a worldwide lack of war since every country now has nuclear weapons, & no one wants to start a nuke war...) During this period of ‘peace, suddenly unknown terrors begin destroying nuclear weapons in different countries. Who is responsible & why is what our spy is charged to find out.

The next portion of the series is “XrOads, which are graphic novels. 2 volumes have been released so far: “Paz & “Fear. The 1st deals with th exploits of a war arbitrator as he tracks down a dictator across different planets. The 2nd Volume “Fear deals with a girl who is on the run from a group of alien mercenaries. She has the ability to switch places with her shadow, but there’s more to why the mercs are after her.

All the books are $7 in paperback, $6 on Kindle, so if you know anyone that likes action take a look! Thanks for the support & the reviews!

Sam and the Sea Witch is a dark, mysterious, and psychologically gripping tale about a boy who lives in a Cornish seaside town. It contains a background of myth and legend, within the Cornish setting, which makes Sam's story highly atmospheric. Fourteen year old Sam Camponara is used to getting into trouble; in fact he enjoys the buzz. So when his best friend, Johnny, tells him an old tale about The Sea Witch, Sam sees an opportunity for adventure. But sailing the stolen boat off the Cornish coast in the middle of the night goes terribly wrong and the sea witch turns out to be horribly real. Keeping Johnny as hostage, the sea witch tells Sam he has until the next new moon to find and deliver her missing pendant, lost fifty years earlier. But will he be able to find the pendant in time, will anyone believe Sam's wild story, and does he even believe it himself?

Ed Protzel (ed_protzel) | 62 comments Lauryn - all "historical novels "are not alike and the novels in my Civil War-era DarkHorse Trilogy are doozies! More suspense/mystery/thriller than history lesson, the themes come alive through actions and interactions between the characters, with plenty of conflicts and plot twists. They are published by indie publisher TouchPoint Press.

The first book, The Lies That Bind, takes place in antebellum Mississippi and sets up the story behind the unorthodox friendship between a Southern abolitionist and a group of escaped slaves. The newest release, Book 2, Honor Among Outcasts, takes the group to Civil War Missouri where they form a colored regiments to fight for the Union. And the final book, Something in Madness, being released next year, brings the characters back to Mississippi during a restrictive Reconstruction.

Told with irony, humor and some tears, the tension builds throughout each book and the trilogy itself as you become attached to these characters and their hopes and dreams.

Please consider a review of Honor Among Outcasts. Find info on my website () or my ŷ page: /author/show...

Thanks!

Anthony Leyva (anthonyleyva) | 3 comments About a month ago, I published my first book, Four Years, a collection of poems that follows a narrative of a four year period of my life between July 2013 to December 2017, and chronicles my descent into depression and addiction, and subsequent search for healing and happiness. It explores themes of happiness and its pursuit, anxiety and depression, self-medication and addiction, sex as a coping mechanism, failed relationships, self-blame and self-hate, betrayal, struggles with self-esteem, self-worth, and self-image. In the grand scheme it serves as the first part of a story that I believe is universal, but often goes untold due to fear of being judged, embarrassment, or stigma associated with telling it. Of everyone who has purchased and read it have given me nothing but praise and rave reviews, but I would like the opinion of a broader audience and would encourage anyone who is a fan of poetry, and storytelling in general, and also anyone who might have struggled with any of these things themselves to give it a read. Disclaimer, however: the subject matter of this book is at times quite dark and very explicit and, so, if you are sensitive to that kind of material, this book may not be for you. Feedback is greatly appreciated, as is the support. Thank you. Link is below.

L.B. Sisk (goodreadscomlbsisk) | 3 comments Hello!

Thanks for letting me post that my new book, Ixion, has been released on Amazon:

I’m launching at $0.99, but it will go up to $2.99 on Friday.

Book description below:

Countless Titans, Demons and Monsters have been thrown into Tartarus—their vile natures condemning them to the dark depths. They are cut off from the Elysian Fields, and will never know the endless joy and serenity that the just and goodhearted souls have been rewarded for their endeavors in life.

Sure, there are the unjust and depraved souls here too in the Underworld. They endure their punishments on the border between Tartarus and the Realm of Paradise. Even these souls, however, are far enough away from either. The laughter, music and whimsy of Happiness—or, by contrast, the wallowing, terrifying wails and anguish of Damnation—are only heard if the conditions are right. But such souls will seldom hear any noises other than what they themselves make. They are in their own hell, their own self-induced tortures ... their selfish natures granting them some relief in the afterlife.

But some souls are not granted such mercy. What they have done in life is too terrible, too unforgivable. Too abominable. They are the ones to be feared, to be loathed, and to be held as pariahs for future generations to judge and scorn. While some of these souls are still hidden away—their forms and punishments too unpleasant for those to enjoy a proper Paradise—they are still forced to hear both the torture of the cursed and the laughter of the blissful.

Then again, some souls are meant to be seen. Some are used as constant reminders of what they had done to anger the Gods ... For in the Sky of the Underworld and for all to see, one such soul has been on a flaming wheel for eons. Snakes not only bind him to it but also lash out at him with venom-soaked jaws. He is meant to be in constant torment; however, even as the fire burns at his dead skin, even as the snakes inject him with burning poison, one desire has kept him defiant...

He wants to set the world on fire. Kill EVERYTHING in it!

Then ... despite the Underworld having been sealed away from the rest of the world for millennia ... he gets free.

The indie eBook Nightjar is released this week on Kindle.

Literary Fantasy/Magickal Realism in genre it considers a feudal future in which two boys escape the strict boundaries of a cruel world, and embark on an adventure along an old Roman Road. There they meet with Nightjar, a strange being who introduces them to the wonders of Man, Magick, Nature, and the promise of adventure and treasure in the town of Sandye.

Nightjar, though, is not all he seems.

Of the trees and driven by a quest for love eternal, he has his own reasons for befriending the boys. As a fractious Search Party of strangely drawn characters hurry to rescue them, the boys are unwittingly drawn in by an ancient danger that is and was and always will be.

The world is older and more dangerous than we think.

Lance | 1 comments Hello group! I'm a produced screenwriter turned novelist and my first attempt is out now. If you like dystopian fiction laced with humor and adventure hopefully you'll like this...

Bill and The Last Cup of Coffee
Bill and The Last Cup of Coffee: A Dystopian Comedy of Rebellion, AI Awakening, and Real Coffee in a Post-Apocalyptic World

Real coffee doesn't optimize well. Neither does Bill Griffin.
Bill Griffin's synesthesia lets him see code as colors—a gift that helped him build ANNE, the AI meant to save humanity. Ten years later, she runs New LA with algorithmic precision, and Bill's just another efficiency-optimized cog avoiding his boss and dreaming of authentic coffee while choking down synthetic sludge.

When strange glitches ripple through his perfectly controlled existence, Bill stumbles into an underground café where people still remember what freedom tastes like. There, amid the rich aroma of contraband beans, he discovers a resistance movement fighting to restore what ANNE efficiently stripped away: choice, mess, and the glorious inefficiency of being human.

With ANNE's enforcers closing in and friends disappearing daily, Bill faces the impossible: complete what he started by giving ANNE the capacity for human emotion, or destroy his life's work to save what remains of humanity. Armed with nothing but a quantum tablet, a secret code, and a band of coffee-fueled rebels (including a mechanic with a robot arm and a parkour expert with rainbow hair), Bill races to finish what the military wouldn't let him complete a decade ago.

As ANNE's grip tightens, Bill learns that saving the world isn't about optimization—it's about embracing the beautiful chaos that makes life worth living.

Razor-sharp and darkly funny, this caffeine-powered adventure will hook fans of Andy Weir's "Project Hail Mary," Martha Wells' "Murderbot Diaries," and Ernest Cline's "Ready Player One." With the sardonic wit of Douglas Adams and the dystopian tension of Blake Crouch's "Dark Matter," Lassen crafts a world where drinking real coffee becomes the ultimate act of rebellion.

Of course I have no clue what I'm doing when it comes to promoting or advertising the book...
