Done!
I look forward to reading your discussion points.
I read this book several years ago and found it to be an informative riveting read.
I hope others will join in or if they have read it contribute to the discussion.

Columbus, do you know whether Maud Martha is online anywhere?

Yes, indeed. There’s 3 copies available to read online @ openlibrary.org. If interested, I can begin whenever you like.

openlibrary.org

Hmm, that’s strange. I signed up back in March 16 so wondering if they changed anything since then. Sorry you couldn’t get on but the book is not as obscure as I thought. Even my library system had a couple of copies.

The open library project is supported by over 150 public libraries and the ebooks are purchased or digitized if no copyright exists. I've attached the link that you can see if you go to the Openlibrary.org main page and click the "Learn more about our open libraries project" in the blue shaded area near the top of the page. I just wanted everyone to know this can be a great resource and it's all legal.
Laurie, thanks for explaining that.
Open Library has been invaluable to me since I joined. Particularly, as you mentioned, for those out of print books that are no longer available for purchase and not stocked at the library. I’m reading more books online now and it’s perfect for me.

So Much Blue by Percival Everett
An American Marriage by Tayari Marriage
Knucklehead by Adam Smyer
Any updates by those who were interested in reading one of the above?

I am interested in Knucklehead but won't be able to start on it until the middle of March.
Will that work??
I can start a buddy read by Thurs 22nd with any of the titles listed below. Let me know:
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
The House of Erzulie
Land of Shadows

Me, too.

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
The House of Erzulie
Land of Shadows travel plans w/very limited internet access makes Mar 22nd not a viable date for me.

Yes, it is - I am going to blame my confusion on this 70 degree weather which is more normal in March.
But I my travels do start this weekend so this week is not doable for me.
Is the book published yet?

Which one are you all planning to start 2/22?

That’s fine with me. Phyllis, does NOCPMN work for you?
Also, if that’s the book we choose, you mind if we put it off til the 1st? I had decided to only read women authors this month for Women’s History Month. My boo boo.

Ok, great! I’ll send a reminder note a couple of days before.
Beverly, can you set up a thread for us for April 1st, thanks!

I just sent off for the first two volumes of the Yu translation of Journey to the west last week or so. It took me forever to work out which translation I wanted AND could obtain and then afford. I was planning on diving into that then heading on to other ancient Chinese texts over the late spring/early summer. I'd imagine I'll be slow on these, but I'd love a buddy if you're willing to wait a couple months.
(BTW, Are you the Aubrey from 1001 list group, by any chance?)

I'd be happy to wait, Ella, and no, I haven't been part of the 1001 group for some time now. I found it rather limiting.

Hey Aubrey,
Funny you say that about the 1001 group. I just don't like it, or maybe I feel a bit out of place. Not really sure. I'm not actually trying to read the whole list - especially the first one (which I think they should have called "books by our friends & some classics"), but I do like many of the authors I've discovered through the list, and I as I get older, I find reading for enjoyment for me also means stretching and learning. (I get bored from pure pleasure perhaps?)
I use the 1001 list as well as a few others (500 great books by women, Classic Crime, Bloom's list, the yearly prize-winners, etc) to make sure I don't spend all of my time reading spy stories by old white men.
So, my books are here, and I should be ready to read them whenever you are - as long as it's not before May. I would actually like to try to go slowly so I can make sure I'm "getting" all the references, etc. Sound OK to you?

Would be possible to start a buddy reads thread for The Birds of Opulence? Alana and I are interested in starting this on Sunday, May 13th.
Anyone else is welcome to join, as I know it was a choice for the June LFPC book, and received a good deal of votes!
