Jingraves | 165 comments I created this topic because I wanted to a place were we could bring up the manga we read and talk about. Nothing to serious just a little spot to enjoy talking about what you are reading. Maybe you can get someone going on a series you are reading now or chime in on someone else's. Or you could help me pick one up I might not have read before. Have fun!!!

I've read up to v.13 of attack on titan and only read the first volume of before the fall.

I need to get back to reading it! Just finished vol.1 and 2 of Bungo Stray Dogs - which was pretty good. Not horror more super powered detective series.

I've been meaning to pick up the manga for Bungo Stray Dogs for awhile now. I really loved the anime, so I wanted to see how the manga compared. (Manga is usually better for me.)

Tonight I am hoping to finish Overlord, Vol. 1 (manga) (A great video game type reincarnation story!) and continue with A Polar Bear in Love, Vol. 1, which is cute, but not something I can read in one sitting with how it is broken up. I am thinking of starting Unmagical Girl, Vol. 1 (My random pick up, something I decided to try doing every month in which I by the first volume of a series I know very little or nothing about and give it a try.) afterwards and maybe Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea.

nice i'm picking up a bunch of fantasy mangas next time at the library because it looks like fantasy is going to win the poll... btw what genres would you guys like to vote on for march gotm?

MythologyGirl (Kim) (mythologygirl) Fantasy/adventure and slice-of-life manga are usually my go to genres. Lately, I tend to lean towards manga with a reincarnation twist or some kind of video game premise, so I can't say I will be disappointed if fantasy wins the poll. As for what genres for March, well, I would still like to have harem/reverse harem as an option (my greatest weakness!), though I would like to try my hand at reading more historical, nonfiction, and drama. Mecha, music, and parody/comedy would be great too!

Are the monthly genres going to have a monthly manga paired with them as well to read as a group as well? It would be cool to have some buddy reads over the year! I was thinking, in order to broaden my manga horizons, on picking up a new release (first volume) every month or so if anyone wants to join me in that. Possibly older series that I passed up in the past that I come across again?

I made a separate folder for Buddy Reads so if you want to start something there and we can set stuff up there that is cool...

MythologyGirl (Kim) (mythologygirl) I'll check it out! :)

MythologyGirl (Kim) (mythologygirl) Decided to go with Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea by Mogeko, so far it has only been okay. I feel like it has been contradicting itself, but it might just be something that needs to have a clearer explanation, which could happen later.

Also still reading A Polar Bear in Love, Vol. 1 by Koromo. I get the feeling this is gonna take me a few more days to finish.

Oh I need to get on that bus and read that one! Plus the sequel to Fruits Basket which I found online :)

MythologyGirl (Kim) (mythologygirl) I still need to read A Silent Voice too! I'm thinking of picking up their other series, To Your Eternity next month.

I finished reading Captive Hearts of Oz Vol. 1 a few days ago and will be picking up Fushigi Yûgi, Vol. 1 on Sunday for the buddy read since I will be going on a trip the first week of Febuary and don't want to damage it by taking it with me. (I am a little crazy when it comes to the care of my manga.) Really excited to get back into this world again, especially since it is one of first 3 I ever read.

I have never gotten to read Fushigi so it will be fun to read. I had a lot of people talk about it when I started reading, but no one was ever like here read this or you should read it. I got into more of Inuyasha or Get Backers.

Francesca I'm currently reading fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood volume 10! Love this series <3 <3

message 22: by Jingraves (new)

Jingraves | 165 comments I did a read and watch, it was funny because there are slight differences, nothing to crazy, but it made me laugh when a character wasn't holding something they needed too.

I think the funniest one for me was when they go see their teacher and he first comes out of the house, I think in the manga he has a big butcher knife, in the anime he doesn't have it and the scene is just a little different.

nice about brotherhood... I also need to get into that manga too *sighs* so many things to read!

message 24: by Jingraves (new)

Jingraves | 165 comments So true so true. Collecting is a pain too, I want to read/ own older series, but its so hard finding a decent copy. Intial D and Rave Master are some of my tops, but there is also Saint Saiya and Banana Fish.

I'm glad Fruits Basket came out with Omnibus, it was going to be very expensive in the end for me to get the singles and Tsubasa as well.

Dani (ダニ ¦ 다니) (itsdanidee) I'm currently reading Yotsuba&! and No. 6

Francesca AAA YESSS. BROTHERHOOD MAKES ME LAUGH OUT LOUD SOMETIMES AHAHA omg sorry caps lock but i dont feel like retyping. Yes collecting really is a pain :( im a student so i only work like one day a week and i generally just spend all my money on booksss

message 27: by Jingraves (new)

Jingraves | 165 comments Yotsuba is on my list to read, and "Baby and Me". Sweetness and Lightning is good too. I usually have like 10 to read a week to stay up to date on my series. Then some new stuff. I probably average about 15 a week.

I think doing this challenge last year I stayed in the #1 spot and read over 500 something. The year before I read 400 something, I think. Raven usually gives you a run for your money. That's why this year I just decided to read 100 new titles. I don't have to keep up with the rest of what I read on here.

Last year I found sticky notes or bits of paper everywhere because I'd make a note that I read such and such and forgot to take the note out or throw it away after. Sooooo, kind of taking a break I guess you could say.

Dani (ダ) wrote: "I'm currently reading Yotsuba&! and No. 6"

I have way to much, but I love it. I am not sure, but I think I own more than most people. I really wish some companies wouldn't drop their series.

I work a 8 to 5 job. Usually a full time student for college, and I own my own business I work at on Saturday.

Oh wow that's impressive! I wouldn't manage to maintain a full time job! I'm doing some a levels a year early so this year im all up for studying... I only started getting into manga last year, but i also read normal books so it's not really my main focus, which is probably the reason I don't own so many

message 30: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 18 comments I'm enjoying Yotsuba&!, she's just so out there and adorable. I'm on volume 5 and its great if you just want light-hearted fun. Sweetness and Lightning is another that I'm on the fence about, but I really really like the cooking scenes.

If you don't own Baby & Me you might have a hard time finding two of the volumes (at least in print they are on kindle). I know because we have that series at work and I cannot get replacement copies because the publisher is no longer publishing those two specific volumes. Very annoyed.

Jingraves - Super impressed that you get those ten to fifteen read each week with your busy schedule! Kudos.

Jingraves has even more manga then me and I have collecting back when Tokyopop started the right to left trend and dropping the prices of books. :)

message 32: by Jingraves (new)

Jingraves | 165 comments Well, we are probably close in age. I just turned 26 in December. I was there for Tokyopop going under for the first time. I started when I was 14. Maybe had like 300, by 16 or 17. Bumped up to 600 around 19. Then I got to buy a friends collection, and it went up to 900. I bought here and there, probably got up to 1300. Then I just got a really good job the January after I turned 23. Have been there since and getting through school, but with pre-orders I'm now over 3500.

Ian wrote: "Jingraves has even more manga then me and I have collecting back when Tokyopop started the right to left trend and dropping the prices of books. :)"

Most are like updates I have pre-order. Ian and I both just finished FairyTail last week. The only bad thing right now is I'm trying to change a room in my house from my library into like a board gaming room. I'm trying to rap and move all my manga from here to my storage room, where hopefully I can set it up to look like my old library at home.

I try to be on top of it for the most part, with a you can sleep when your dead kind of attitude.

OH AND THAT SHONEN JUMP!! I miss getting it every month.

I miss the shonen jump too. I got the volume 0 as well.

Jennifer | 18 comments Jingraves - Your library reminds me of when I was in Japan as a teenager. I visited the Kyoto International Manga Museum and attended the manga assistant experience course. Its been a while since I thought about those times so thank you!

Before anyone asks it was a beautiful place that had chairs for people to sit and read. I just remember walls and walls of manga. Really it felt more like a library than museum. The manga course was fun as the instructor demonstrated by drawing panels from Dragonball.

Rieh - I have started Horimiya for the first time recently and I totally love it. Her little brother is just too cute.

Rieh Medin (dracosilverwolf) | 44 comments I'll throw mine in with yours if you don't already have them haha.

I need a more comprehensive list but right now I'm working on Vampire Knight (I can't believe I never finished this), Dragon Knights, can't remember if I finished Vampire Game, Berserk, Bleach, Hellsing and there's a ton more I'm not thinking of right now. I'm at work so I have to take a look when I get home.

Btw that rightstuf site is super addicting. I'm already putting a second order in with them.

message 44: by Jingraves (new)

Jingraves | 165 comments Vampire Knights, I got thru part of it by skimming the first part from the anime. Bleach is about to end June-ish. Berserk comes out slow. Hellsing is 10 volumes, but the accents can be hard to read sometimes. especially when there are like 4 of them. I don't think I've heard of Vampire Game or Dragon Knights. I will have to do so research haha.

Rightstuf is great, especially with the membership and all. I preorder everything through them and try to get some of the manga I don't have when they have deals.

Sure. you can throw yours in. It will just push it that much further into becoming a big monster collection. It's currently about 440 way from 4000. So we will have to see.

I started that when it first came out and now I just *have* to finish it because I remember I stopped when it was getting ridiculous . . . Hellsing is hard to find I got the first 8 volumes but 9 and 10 are sold out everywhere so I'm going to have to get creative (though I love it to death so I'll find it).

I literally spent hours today trying to get a list of manga together and it's *huge* so I can wait for the slow ones.

I think I have about 300 physical volumes? And then over 500 e-book volumes if that counts for anything.

I hate when a manga goes out of print and certain volumes sky rocket in price. That happened with Sumomo Momomo when I had 1 and 2 and could get all but the 3rd one which people were trying to sell for nearly 50 bucks. Luckily one day I found a copy for slightly more then average price.

message 47: by Rieh (new)

Rieh Medin (dracosilverwolf) | 44 comments That's what Hellsing is right now! I might end up getting it e-book format cause that's $6 but I was hoping for the physical books.

Jingraves | 165 comments Ya it's a pain, Right now, I'm looking for my 300th time one getting Rave Master, Ian you made me think of since we just got done with Fairy Tail. It was one of the guys before Fairy Tail. But finding them and getting them in good condition is a pain. Initial D is the same way. At least you can find them, God forbid you like a series VIZ gets rid of, Zatch Bell and Kurohime were some of my hardest ones to get, Oh and Ultimate Muscle; especially in a good condition. I think I ended up with 3 copies of the same book, because I hated how damaged they were.

message 50: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 18 comments I finished Vampire Knights, which was interesting in a totally what the heck am I reading kind of way. Though by the end I feel like they just went any which way as it didn't even make sense anymore. Thankfully the public libraries in Ga tend to have a lot of the older material because they never weed. I've had books sent to me that are missing half the cover or have whole sections unglued.

I'm stuck on getting Bride of the Water God. Dark horse isn't publishing the beginning/middle of the series anymore, just the end.

Do any of you use the book lamination material to extend the life of your books? The hard plastic stuff the libraries use. I find that it really makes a difference on the used copies I buy. If nothing else the cover won't get any worse.
