Jessica | 81 comments Set my goal for 2018 at the beginning of January for 10 books as I'm a slow reader and we have a little one. I'm already beating that goal so fingers crossed I get to more than 10 books this year! I'm hoping to read many different genres within the fiction category throughout the year!

Susy (susysstories) You’re off to a great start Jess! Wishing you the best of luck with the remaining of your goal & happy reading!!

Blagica | 12848 comments Jess you are doing fantastic. Remember it isn't about reading 100 books it's about reading some great books. I hope you find a book you love this year happy reading!

Jessica | 81 comments Thank you both! I always tend to get held up when I'm reading a book that I'm really not enjoying as I don't have it in me to not finish it but it just takes me forever and a day! Thankfully, I seem to be on a roll with enjoyable books lately :)!

I know what you mean! That's why I always have another read on the side. Unless the month is over and I still haven't finished it yet.
However, I do want to learn to DNF books that I'm not enjoying at all, cause there are so many other great books out there waiting to be read, more than I can read in a lifetime, so it's actually a waste of time forcedly finishing a book I don't like....

I was told I need to learn to let go of bad books lol

Jessica | 81 comments It's just so hard to let go - maybe one day I'll learn!

Finished reading The Night Watch and I enjoyed it for the most part! On to reading A Walk Across the Sun now....I'm sure this will be an emotionally hard read due to the topics discussed.

Thank you :)! Considering I will probably hit the half way point of my 10 book challenge by end of month - I would say I'm doing well! Although I probably won't get much reading done in April with all the business travel my husband has that month.

message 12: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh Miller (ashleighabsurd) I hope you meet your goal! Though you are on to a great start you're on 4 and its not even April yet I believe in you :D

Is there a particular one that stands out so far as something you'd recommend?

Best of luck through the remainder of the year!

Jessica | 81 comments Thank you Ashleigh and Lisa! It has been a good run so far.

I have to say I gobbled up The Brides of Rollrock Island pretty quickly. It was an excellent young adult read and while it had an element of magic in it - it was realistic at the same time.

I will need to check that book out as I haven't heard of it before

Blagica | 12848 comments A book is a dream that you hold in your hand. I hope that April brings you many more five star reads.

Jessica | 81 comments Thanks Blagica :)

Just finished reading A History of Loneliness and it was a decent book. Last month and this month are pretty crazy but now that we are middle of April things should start to calm down a bit and hopefully I can get some more reading in.

Jessica | 81 comments I had a bit of a reading slump due to the busyness of life - but last couple months have picked up again and I've just completed book 9 of 10. I think that I might pass my goal of 10 books this year. Anyhow here is a list of the books I've read so far:

The Wanderers by Meg Howrey
The Brides of Rollrock Island by Margo Lanagan
The Night Watch by Sarah Waters
A Walk Across the Sun by Corban Addison
A History of Loneliness by John Boyne
I am Forbidden by Anouk Markovits
Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray
The Girls by Lori Lansens
Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

The Girls by Lori Lansens was a great book and probably one of my favourites that I've read this year.

Blagica | 12848 comments You are on your way to having a great year in books!

Jessica | 81 comments Just completed Bel Canto by Ann Patchett which is my 10th book of the year. Wasn't a huge fan of this book - a bit to slow paced for me and I felt like we were just stuck in the same spot for most of the book.

Either way - it was a good year for books and hopefully I can read a few more in 2019!
