Starting a new thread for our spring 2018 group read of The Name of the Rose, by Umberto Eco. Our discussion leader will be Leslie.

Who will be joining us for this read, which we will plan on starting mid-April?

Leslie will post a schedule once she has one figured out. :-)

Nell This one has been on my shelf for a loooong time. I plan to join the discussion.

Lalitha (falcon_) I read this book only a little while ago. Can I participate in the discussions?

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) I don't think that would be a problem.

Juliette | 40 comments I would like to, will contact my Library to see if they have it.

Lalitha (falcon_) Thank you, Jayme.

Irene | 4517 comments I read this a few years ago. I will be lurking, but do not think it is fresh enough for me to actively participate.

message 8: by Petra (new)

Petra Same here, Irene. I am looking forward to the discussion.

Lalitha, you are absolutely welcome to join in! The only request for people that have finished the book is try not to give away any spoilers if we have not got to that part in our discussion schedule yet. :-)

Lalitha (falcon_) Of course! no spoilers from me. just looking forward to some interesting discussions :)

Hi Leslie. Are you still interested in leading the discussion of The Name of the Rose for our group for this month?

Sorry everyone, but it looks like we are not going to be doing the group read of The Name of The Rose. Leslie has sent me a private message at the end of March, requesting to be made a "moderator" of this group to lead the discussion of this book, even though she has only ever posted 5 comments in our group, all of them in the nomination thread for this group read. I politely told her that being a moderator of the group was not necessary to lead a discussion, and all of our discussions are led by regular members. I have not heard back from her since.

So sorry for those who were interested in reading this one. :-(

Hello everyone. Sorry, but I really do not feel like putting up with the attitude that Leslie was having in her posts today, so I have deleted her from the group, and deleted her comments of today.

I hope that I have not offended anyone by doing this, but I prefer this group to be a happy, fun, casual place to have great discussions of books. Thank you to all of you who always keep an upbeat attitude and share in the great discussions we have here!

Nell I agree.

(I deleted my post since it no longer made sense.)

Thank you, Petra. :-)

Irene | 4517 comments Now I am wondering what I missed by not following this thread. Sheila, you are a great moderator, so I trust your decisions.

Renee (elenarenee) | 275 comments I admit i was hoping to discuss the book. I read it years ago and hated it. But so many people loved it. I wanted to hear others views to find out why.

Nell Maybe a buddy read?

Renee (elenarenee) | 275 comments I don't really want to reread the book I didn't like it. I was hoping to read what others thought. I sometimes get a better appreciation of books hearing what others thought. This was a book i felt i should like but didn't. I wonder if it because i didn't understand it
