It was an intense month of voting with a few books battling it out. The winning book won b/c its voters backed up their voting by using all 5 points beating out a book that had many more individual people voting for it but using fewer points to vote.

I have already read Pastoralia so I will read The Moor’s Last Sigh.

I’ve read both- just finished the Rushdie earlier this year.
I’ll focus on the challenges, and maybe get the annual read started. Or plant my garden, since it will be May. Mmmm...garden food...

I think I'll see if the library can get hold of Pastoralia for me.

I have had to buy both of these on Kindle, but as they are the first I have had to buy this year, I am happy to do so. I am hoping I will enjoy Pastoralia more than Lincoln in the Bardo, which I did not.

I'm not really interested in reading either book, so I'll just see which is easier for me to get and hope it's better than expected.

Not the books I would have chosen, but I am thrilled to actually have two books I have not read yet. I will try to read them both.

Sorry, Jen . . .I was definitely one of those 5 vote contributors, lol. I'm a Sanders fan. Well, so far, lol. After Pynchon, I was basically petrified that now we were going to have Rushdie . . .my fear was not totally unfounded.

Ha ha, i have no hard feelings against those who voted for it. I’ll be curious to see if you in particular like this book because
it’s not the sort of book I’d think you would like but we shall see. I wouldn’t have thought you’d like Lincoln in the bardo either but I was wrong

Have you read Tenth of December? I'm just curious if Pastoralia seemed similar to you, or if it is completely different?

I will once again try to locate copies of both and read both.

These both look pretty good. Friend Ian gave Pastoralia five stars and he's pretty discriminating. I'd like to read both but that would be 800 pages, and I have lots of others to read. Haven't really decided but I'm leaning toward getting the ebook of Moor's Last Sigh from the library for my Kindle. They also have the audiobook but that's 20 hrs long. I read Rushdie's Midnight's Children and enjoyed it moderately. I notice Moor's Sigh wasn't retained in the 2012 Boxall edition (but 3 others of his were).

PS: Have decided to read Pastoralia. I do want to read another Rushdie but will read Shame instead, because it was kept in the latest edition of The List, and has the highest avg rating of those 2 I haven't read.

I thought they had similarities, but Tenth Of December was much better- more mature, maybe.

I haven’t read either yet, so whatever the library brings to me in time, likely.

I will be reading Pastoralia and will attempt Rushdie is the library cooperates and if I have time. Lincoln in the Bardo was my first Saunders book and so I am looking forward to more.

Any volunteers for moderating BOTMs in May?

I've been reading all the Rushdie novels I can find, so while The Moor's Last Sigh is not one our library owns, I may get to it in May, if I can find a copy. We only get 5 ILL requests per month, I think, at my library, but it's possible that I can get it in time to read it while it is a BOTM.
