Jim (jimmaclachlan) | 4367 comments Our monthly read is Fandom for Robots by Vina Jie-Min Prasad. It can be found online here:

This was nominated by Cheryl who says, "It's quite short, and has been nominated for a Hugo. And if I say anything more about it I'll be spoiling it. I think you-all should read it before going to the GR page for it... but not until we're ready to discuss it!"

Cheryl (cherylllr) Ty :) I'll reread it soon; it was that interesting.

Oleksandr Zholud | 1366 comments I liked it but I am unsure that I correctly see all allusions to old SF (assuming they are present).

Jim (jimmaclachlan) | 4367 comments It's a lot of fun. This is the second time I've read it & I might have picked up a few more allusions. Plenty there.

I really enjoyed it. I would have laughed, if I had circuits for that.

Did y'all notice the allusions to R.U.R. ? (Mostly just character names: Karel, Alquist, Sulla, Rossum, Quite a coincidence that we read them at the same time.)

I don't really participate in Fan communities (unless this counts) and have only read one FanFic but the behaviors depicted here seem accurate.

Pat the Book Goblin I'll check out this story soon.

Zhermen | 13 comments It was very interesting and fun to read, also I am loving the end :D

Peter Tillman | 730 comments I read this at the time, but just catching up on this thread now. My take: 5 stars! /review/show...
And a bunch of other GR reviews by my pals at
/en/book/sho...
-- mostly stealth-merges by some bossy GR super-Librarian, who hates giving shorts their own page. Grr.

Peter Tillman | 730 comments Jim, I take it you don't send out messages announcing the monthly short pick? Or am I just too clueless to find them.

Regardless, thanks for all the effort you & Cheryl put into this forum. Three cheers!

I can easily imagine which librarian you are talking about!

I sort-of agree that I don't want a billion pages for each author listing every story separately, but I wish the super-librarians would create more features for the site rather than spend time on that sort of thing.

Oleksandr Zholud | 1366 comments This is an off-topic but I guess the reason behind merging is that GRE makes money on redirecting to amazon and other book sellers and thus they are uninterested in keeping short stories that cannot be obtained separately. Formally it is because they lack ISBN

I do send out a monthly broadcast message that mentions the short story, current novel, poll & such with links. We don't like to spam people, though. If the story is listed as a book in the GR library, it will also be on the group home page. I don't know if you see that or not. I never do unless I'm working on something that requires it.

You're welcome & we do try hard. (Don't forget Ed! *)If you think we should announce the stories or do something in another way, let us know in the Group Suggestions topic here:
/topic/show/...

*Ed does most of his work behind the scenes. Part of it is keeping Cheryl & I sane - an emphasis on the latter. You wouldn't believe some of the ideas I come up with.
;)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Sorry lost track of two months there.

I did just reread this now. I love all the obvious stuff that we're set up to love, but also the commentary on how we really don't know who we're chatting with online. I wonder if bjornruffian is ever going to want to meet her collaborator f2f....

Peter Tillman | 730 comments VJ-MP has a new-to-me story at Uncanny,
Caution: graphic sex at the opener.
I didn't like this one nearly as much as her other 2, better known ones, but it has moments. And the opener will certainly get your attention!
Plus an interesting interview by Caroline M. Yoachim,
