Abby Walker For this free read, I read Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. I was really excited to read this book, but I was expecting something almost completely different. I did not realize this was a book that AP Lit students read, and I probably would not have picked it if I knew. It was a good book, but it was not as dramatic and exciting as I had hoped. One reason I picked it was because I had learned about the history of the author and how her dad neglected her as a child. It was interesting to see how that paralleled in the story, so I am glad I read the book with her childhood in mind. One reason I did not love the book was because the part where Frankenstein was created was toward the beginning of the book, so there was not much to look forward to after that. It was also written in the nineteenth century so the language was harder to read and relate to. The story was also formatted differently, which was a little confusing, and I did not like all the letters that were written to the characters. I am glad I read it, but I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a pleasure read.
