Looking at the children's rules, it says that MG+ can be used with no restrictions. However, it also says that MG must have a BL of 5.0 or higher, which this doesn't.
I've never seen an MG+ book with a BL of less than 5.0 until this one, so I thought I'd better check which rule takes precedence in this particular case.

If it's MG+, you don't go to the BL, etc. Stick with the interest level. Presumably, this is because there may be books for slightly older readers (thus the interest level) who are only reading at a 4th grade level.
It's not a perfect system, but it's reasonably workable!

I don't use the app, so can't help you on that, but maybe someone else here can. I do know that there are supposedly many issues with the app.

Cool. Thank you for the clarification.

I have never had an issue viewing the tasks via the app on my iPhone before, but I did have the crash issue when I tried just now. Hoping it's a temporary glitch.

Though most of the poems are English translations, every now and then a poem appears in its original Spanish, which I do not read. I have skimmed the pages, and it appears that about 80 pages of the text are in Spanish. (Not many, but some poems are given in the original Spanish, then with a translation.)
1) Does this mean I cannot get credit for reading the entire book?
2) If I can get credit -- which I really want -- then the book has 996 pages, of which 80 are in a language I do not read. I should still be able to claim 2 BB tickets, correct?
Thanks.

Yes, that's an advance reader copy. You can use it. Link to the edition that is closest to the ARC and include that is was an ARC in your post.

Different editions may have different subtitles. The edition you read is the one that you use to fulfill a task.
If you read an ebook the print edition is just used to verify the page numbers.

You would need to have a GR librarian take a look and make any necessary updates or corrections to the first published date before you could claim a ticket.

do you have a link that shows the 1926 publish date for this? worldcat which is the resource i use only lists 2007

Dee - the description on the GR book page says "...Originally published in 1926 in San Antonio, Texas as El sol de Texas, the novel chronicles the struggles of two Mexican immigrant families..."
Is that something you can use, or do you need an outside source?

To be used for a SRC task a book must be read completely.
There may be a few words, phrases, footnotes, passages, etc. in a language that you do not understand. You can still "read" this information by considering its context, form, origin, etc.
You would need to do more than "skim" the occasional passages, but if you do some analysis of the poem's form, pattern, etc. that would qualify as "reading".
But only you know if you have read a book completely.

Typically an outside source because anyone can change GR book data...I looked at WorldCat which is basically linked to the library of Congress and a record for most published works anc if listed 2007

It says copyright 2007 but above that says "El Sol de Texas was first printed in San Antonio, Texas in 1926"
Should I re-post this in the Librarian's Group?

Though most of the poems are English translations, every now and then a poem..."
Thanks Sandy. I think I understand. I cannot just skip over, or "skim" the poems in Spanish, but if I stop when I come to one and meticulously compare it to its English translation, word for word, phrase by phrase, then that would count as reading. That should work for me, as I read French, and I should be able to tell what is going on in the Spanish. Such meticulous reading is demanded of poetry anyway. It may take a little extra time, but I am determined. Pablo Neruda deserves his Nobel Prize, IMHO.

Though most of the poems are English translations, every now and then a poem..."
Thanks Dlmrose, for taking the time to answer these silly translation questions. As it turns out, I am not doing a very good job of translating the Spanish, taking large amounts of time at an arduous task. My library has a much slimmer volume of Neruda poetry which will fit the challenge, so I will just use that. But thanks anyway! I appreciate it.

The rules state that both numbers must be higher than the minimum, so this doesn't work.

Please link to the book in question.

Collections of syndicated, periodical or internet comic strips, single or short-format panels, or cartoons must be at least 200 pages to be used for SRC tasks.

Here's the book: Attack on Titan: Lost Girls The Manga, Vol. 1, but I've realized that it only needs 100 pages.

You could ask a librarian to add your edition. /topic/show/...
You also could double check by putting in the isbn, rather than title or author. Sometimes books get added in multiple times and the one you want may not show up - I've found that sometimes the only way to find the actual edition I read is to use the isbn.

Thank you.

I'll be heading to our no Internet Montana cabin we rent, so though I'll be reading, I probably won't post anything more this season because I won't have Internet again until the night of the 31st. See you again in fall season! Happy end of August!
