Raised to be a warrior, seventeen-year-old Eelyn fights alongside her Aska clansmen in an ancient rivalry against the Riki clan. Her life is brutal but simple: fight and survive. Until the day she sees the impossible on the battlefield � her brother, fighting with the enemy � the brother she watched die five years ago.

Faced with her brother's betrayal, she must survive the winter in the mountains with the Riki, in a village where every neighbor is an enemy, every battle scar possibly one she delivered. But when the Riki village is raided by a ruthless clan thought to be a legend, Eelyn is even more desperate to get back to her beloved family.

She is given no choice but to trust Fiske, her brother’s friend, who sees her as a threat. They must do the impossible: unite the clans to fight together, or risk being slaughtered one by one. Driven by a love for her clan and her growing love for Fiske, Eelyn must confront her own definition of loyalty and family while daring to put her faith in the people she’s spent her life hating.

Chapter 1-10
(view spoiler)[ Oh man, I am loving the writing in this so far. I am in love with Eelyn. She is frickin bad ass. The writing in this so far is creating a great atmosphere. I wish there was just a little more world building? Like I am picturing the the scenery because of from what I've seen of the Viking's show. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 11-19
(view spoiler)[ So far not a huge plot line, mostly just character development and slice of life stuff. Which I am not minding in the least!! The character dynamics are so good. The author is doing an amazing job writing Eelyn's emotions and making me feel them. I am very much appreciating all the characters in the novel so far. I am curious to how Fiske and her fall in love (as it is mentioned in the summary) because they are not very friendly. All Eelyn wants to do is go back home and figure out why her brother betrayed her here. I too really want to know more. I am really enjoying this book! And OUCH THOSE WORDS AT THE END OF CHAPTER 19. Chapter 20-25
(view spoiler)[Slice of lifey, but I am in LOVE with the characters. There is a bit of drama sprinkled in. Things are finally escalating a little bit with Eelyn being left in the woods and Fiske finding her. I bet this is where their relationship escalates! Also oh man, finally getting some fighting again (I hope). (hide spoiler)]

Finishing (Chapters 26-the End)
(view spoiler)[Sky in the Deep was wonderful! I loved the books. After the Herja attacked, the plot finally picked up again! Uniting the clans, while this plot was extremely straight forward, the execution was amazing! Fiske and Eelyn are the cutest. I really enjoyed how their relationship evolved. I loved seeing the tender side of each character. They complimented each other well. The end battle was a little underwhelming. But I will let it slide because the book was so good. ;) (hide spoiler)]

Finished - This book was amazing! I loved it so much. 5 stars read, that's for sure. The writing was great, the characters as well. I just wish I could have a second book even though the ending was really good. (view spoiler)[ I also wish we'd have more of Fiske and Eelyn ;) (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 1-10

(view spoiler)[ I keep picking up this book and putting it back down, so I'm reading it slower oops. I just finished Chapter 10 & I'm curious as to what is going to happen to her next. Eeylyn seems like an incredibly feisty character. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Oh my gosh! Yes those words at the end of chapter 19 stung! Also the fact that he had a chance to go home, but chose not to was surprising. I wonder how hard it was for him to choose between Eelyn and their father and staying with Fiske's family and Runa.

Also, I feel like the plot was incredibly slow throughout these chapters, but you can definitely see the comparisons Eelyn is making to her people back home. I feel like she's definitely realized they aren't as bad as the stories make them out to be, but she hasn't accepted it because it would go against everything she was raised to believe in. Yeah I agree! I really thought it was "Slice of Life" for most of the book.

Ch. 8 (view spoiler)[ So far I feel like I don't know much about the characters besides that they are warriors and the Riki and Aska don't like each other. How is her brother alive? And why is he keeping her prison? I like the worldbuilding so far, it's very well done. And the short chapters are amazing!! (hide spoiler)]

Ch. 26 (view spoiler)[ FINALLY SOMETHING INTERESTING HAPPENED!! Besides Fiske totally falling in love with her, the plot was so boring. But now there was a Herja raid and Halvard was taken. Eelyn is slowing coming to feel something for these people. I loved seeing her fight again. I'm really glad she didn't die attached to that tree. (hide spoiler)]

Ch. 33 (view spoiler)[ I loved seeing Eelyn and Fiske work together to rescue Halvard. I'm glad Eelyn rescued the Tala as well, I might've left her there. I'm feeling vindictive and petty towards her so... Fiske is so clearly in love with Eelyn, I can't believe she doesn't see it. I like that there haven't been any love declaration yet tho. I wonder if they'll be able to unite the Aska and Riki against the Herja. (hide spoiler)]

Finally fucking finished argh (view spoiler)[ The pacing for this book was all over the place. I liked the story, but god it was so slow for the first half and too rushed for the last half. Also that last battle didn't feel very realistic, someone Eelyn loved should've died like Myra or Iri or her father. The ending was cute though-I definitely shipped Fiske and Eelyn (hide spoiler)]

It wasn't horrible just really slow moving and took me forever to finish. More angst at myself than the book lol

Tempests is so good so far <3 I've been taking a while to read it because Real Life is kicking my butt but I'm seriously enjoying it :|

Chapters 1-12 (view spoiler)[ Even though I get that there's obviously more to the story, I am totally on Eelyn's side about her brother being a traitor. That would be awful. You see your brother dead then one day he's fighting with your enemies and killing your people. And then he takes you to his village where you're made into a slave. Wow, poor girl. I'm excited to learn more about what happened with Iri. Also, I wonder if Eelyn will fall for Fiske? (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 13-24 (view spoiler)[ So now we know why Iri stayed with the Riki, but I still feel for Eelyn. I was really worried that man was going to rape her and I'm so glad he didn't, that would be terrible. I can see Eelyn getting closer to Fiske, which I like. But then she'll be in the same spot as her brother. It's not black and white, I wonder if somehow they can unite their people against the Herja. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 25-36 (view spoiler)[ I'm so happy that Eelyn and Fiske kissed! It's going to be difficult to explain to her father and people, they'll probably think she's a traitor like her brother. I hope they can unite over the common enemy and eventually get along. I really like this so far. (hide spoiler)]

Finished I really liked this book! I read it all at once and was sucked in from the first battle. (view spoiler)[ I'm so happy that Eelyn and Fiske and Iri and Myra all made it out. And now hopefully the clans will continue mixing and their people can become one. (hide spoiler)] great story!

Ch1 (view spoiler)[Okay, that was a pretty intriguing first chapter. I love that the men and women fight together, and that the females aren’t left behind to tend the home while the men go to war 💕

Also, did her brother really die, or was he just in a near death state? I don’t know whether this story has magic or anything at this stage so I have no idea 8’D

Not only is she prisoner but she has to watch her brother be part of another clan basically turning his back on all that je knows. I want to know what happened to him so bad. Chapters 27-42: (view spoiler)[ shes totally going to choose Fiske. I am loving this and was trying to see how this would all end. A coming together is the only likely solution as long as past grievances can be put aside. Oh man but when her father saw Iri...yeah there were tears (hide spoiler)]

Finished: (view spoiler)[ i loved this a lot more than i thought i would. While i think that the final battle felt rushed I'm happy that everyone made it safely and that they are all building a new life for themselves my merging the clans. And i adore Eelyn and Fiske (hide spoiler)]

I started this audiobook this morning and I can’t stop listening! The perfect distraction from work today.

Ch1-12

I love books where you’re just immediately thrown into the action. In this one, you’re dumped in the middle of a fight between the Riki and the Oska. But who are these people? Why are they fighting? What is the land? So many questions!
And then she sees her brother in the enemies. Now just her brother, but her brother who has been DEAD for 5 years! I kind of knew that they would see each other and wasn’t that surprised that she got captured by the Riki because of course that’s how we will get answers about her ghost brother!
I am getting a little confused because we aren’t getting a lot of basic world building facts. Other than these two clans (?) despise each other and she would rather die than be part of the Riki.
I can’t really tell is she wants to get her brother back or just escape or what her plans are (hide spoiler)]

Ah ok some information! So the whole feud between the clans/groups is based on an argument between their gods. So typical! And now Iri lives here and has a new family. And honestly I don’t blame him... his own family left him for dead and they saved him. When Eelyn said she wished her brother had really died that day?!? Ugh the heartbreak. I am hoping for some more action... and the wham Eelyn gets taken into the woods! It’s clear that this family is starting to care for her more than just their duty. (hide spoiler)]
