Anne ✨ Finds Joy (annefindsjoy) | 718 comments ŷ recently published a Summer Reading Challenge with a list of summer-themed reading tasks It looks like a great list and we thought some members might like to do this (we know it's not summer out there for everyone.)

Do you mean for the Sweet & Cool Summer Reading Challenge AND this one? Sure!

But say you read a book for number 17, then I wouldn't think you could use it twice in the same challenge. This should be 20 different books. Don't worry about completing it, I'm not likely to either !

So, typically you'll pick a different book for each of the 20 challenge items listed, even if a book meets more than one. But the great thing about these types of challenges, is you can pick/choose whichever challenge items you want to read books for, you by no means have to read them all, as you say that's pretty challenging. I'm aiming for between 5 and 10 if I can swing it!!

Thanks

I don't think it has to be ghosts necessarily.. any book with an element of 'spookiness' or 'creepiness' would work...

Here's a few goodreads lists of books that readers have frequently shelved as spooky, or creepy. I think there's lots of room for interpretation...
/shelf/show/...
/shelf/show/...

I also added 'tall tale' to the criteria, for those who don't like creepy books... Tall tales feel appropriate for telling around a campfire too...
/shelf/show/...

Anne ✨ Finds Joy (annefindsjoy) | 718 comments I'm happy to realize that some of the books I've read this month actually meet some of these tasks without me even planning it that way ... happy bonus!

I also noticed that some of the books recommended in Icebreaker Challenge would fit some of these tasks :), like:

Into the Great Wide Open - White Fang
Ocean Blue - Daughter of the Pirate King
Stranded (Island) - We Were Liars
Read the World - The forty Rules of Love (Turkey)

and more I'm sure...

Hope everyone's having a great month of reading!

Chloe Reads Books (chloee_matthews) I deleted my first comment because I realised I made a mistake in which book went with which task so I thought I better just start over again and get it right.

1. Into the Great Wide Open
2. Get your Grill On -
3. The Colors of Summer

4. Sand Between My Toes - Midnight Sun This might be an odd choice for this one but you'll understand it if you read it. The main plot point of this story is centred around a trip of Katie's to the beach, so I think it fits this task nicely.

5. Ocean Blue Daughter of the Pirate King I matched this book to this challenge because pretty much the whole story takes place aboard a pirate ship.

6. Hook ‘Em
7. Campfire Story

8. One and Done When It HappensI read this book in a couple of hours lay on the beach.

9. Dear Penpal
10. Backyard BBQ
11. Funny Bone
12. Sun, Moon, and Stars

13. Let’s Get It On Take Me There This book features three narratives, Rhiannon, Nicole and James, all falling in and out of love.

14. Stranded
15. Lucky to Have You
16. Life is a Highway
17. The Future is Bright

18. Time of Our Lives The Angel ExperimentI've chosen this book for this challenge because although it's not a fun adventure, the characters travel across several states looking for answers to their existence (trying not to give spoilers!)

19. Read the World -
20. It's Your Summer -

Let's see how I get on with the rest of them!

Chloe Reads Books (chloee_matthews) I read another book so thought I'd add it to this list! You can see my comments regarding the books I've already completed in my above comment. I've also added some other books that I've read over the summer which could link into some of the tasks.

1. Into the Great Wide Open
2. Get your Grill On -
3. The Colors of Summer
4. Sand Between My Toes - Midnight Sun
5. Ocean Blue Daughter of the Pirate King
6. Hook ‘Em
7. Campfire Story
8. One and Done When It Happens
9. Dear Penpal
10. Backyard BBQ The Roanoke Girls. Although this family might not be reuniting in a positive way, they definitely get back together over the summer.
11. Funny Bone
12. Sun, Moon, and Stars
13. Let’s Get It On Take Me There
14. Stranded The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. This may sound like an odd choice for this task but if you've read it you might understand. I have chosen it as I believe you could describe Christopher as being stranded on the trip he takes (no spoilers!)
15. Lucky to Have You
16. Life is a Highway
17. The Future is Bright
18. Time of Our Lives The Angel Experiment
19. Read the World - Salt to the Sea. This book takes place during the second world war, with relation to Nazi Germany, Poland, Lithuania etc..
20. It's Your Summer -

11. Funny Bone Bared to You. This book wasn't supposed to be funny but some of the scenes that tried to be more serious and passionate definitely made me laugh!
12. Sun, Moon, and Stars
13. Let’s Get It On Take Me There
14. Stranded The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.
15. Lucky to Have You It Had to Be You. I picked this up in a charity shop for 50p.
16. Life is a Highway This Secret We're Keeping. There's a bit of a road trip, but to describe it would be to give away the story!
17. The Future is Bright The Immortal Rules. Although this book doesn't give a specific date, it's based in a time where the human race has changed dramatically, and gives hints to a 'time before' which seems the same as modern day.
18. Time of Our Lives The Angel Experiment
19. Read the World - Salt to the Sea.
20. It's Your Summer - For this challenge I decided to read a book that had been on the back-burner for a while; Noughts & Crosses.

So at almost the end of August I've completed 16 of the challenges! I'm happy with that!

Chloe - you are CLOSE!!! Time for some 'short' reads? For #9 Dear PenPal - 84, Charing Cross road is only 97 pages :) and it's quite delightful!

Chloe Reads Books (chloee_matthews) Thanks for all the support guys! I don't think I'll be finishing this one - but I've smashed my "Summer Read More" target and also my reading challenge for this year so I'm proud of how much I've read in the last three months!

I accidentally started reading a short book that has fishing in it - The Smell of Other People's Houses. So now I'm really motivated to get this done... even though I only have two days! Can you think of a short book that includes outdoor summer activities, includes letters, or takes place in space? ;)

Helen's Babies is a book with around 120 pages. There are some letters exchange between the siblings.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a book with around 170 pages about outer space.

Or maybe you could take a look at /shelf/show/... or /list/show/2... for books under 100 pages :)

Anne ✨ Finds Joy (annefindsjoy) | 718 comments Dear Fahrenheit 451: Love and Heartbreak in the Stacks: A Librarian's Love Letters and Breakup Notes to the Books in Her Life If you can get this one, it's a small book that's a fast read, written by a librarian and it's funny.

Or I have on my TBR Griffin and Sabine it's only 46 pages... a visual novel that unfolds in a series of postcards and letters, all illustrated...

Chloe Reads Books (chloee_matthews) Thanks for all your help guys! I've picked up Genesis which is only 185 pages long and I'm hopefully going to get it done today.

Then I think I'll settle for 18/20, that's a pretty good score!
