25.2 - Nick KY’s Task: This Summer’s Theme, more or less

For this task, read books from two different options dealing (somewhat) with this season, its theme, and its group reads categories. If the option requires a genre, it may be alone or imbedded.

REQUIRED: State which Options you choose.

Option A. Other Theaters. Since many theatrical arenas and stages now only stand in ruins, and since a medical operating room was originally called a “theater,� read a nonfiction book which meets SRC guidelines which has at least one of the following mainpage GR genres:

“H¾±²õ³Ù´Ç°ù²ââ€�
“A°ù³¦³ó²¹±ð´Ç±ô´Ç²µ²â.â€�

Option B. More Summer Refreshment. Read a book with a beverage in a drinking glass, cup or mug on its cover. We must see the beverage, steam rising from it, or a foam on top to insure that the liquid is there. Open bottles with the beverage visible will work, but not unopened ones."

Option C. The Present reflects the Past. My first challenge with the SRC was the Spring of 2011. Reflecting to that past challenge, I find that the Group Reads categories were amazingly similar to this challenge’s Group Reads Categories. They were:

“Love Stories�
“Biography, Autobiography, Memoir�
“Science Fiction.�

So for this option you may go back and read a winner or nominee from the Spring 2011 Group Reads. You may read any single entry in a series which has one book listed.

REQUIRED: State the category. If you are reading a book in a series and that specific book is not on the list, specify the book of that series that was on the list.

Option D. Summer at the Gulf. Many U.S. citizens head for the Gulf of Mexico for a summer vacation. Read a book with at least three words in the title, the first letter of each word beginning with a letter from:

THE GULF OF MEXICO.

Letters may be used only as often as they appear in the target phrase. Subtitles may be ignored.

For Option A, Come, Tell Me How You Live is confirmed as "History" and "Archaeology."

Option D choices do not need official confirmations as long as every word in the title begins with a letter in the target phrase, and the title is at least 3 words. (That should not change as the season progresses.) But your Option D choice is a good one!

I will add my own confirmation, so that I do not get blasted with one of the genres being taken away later.

People of Chaco: A Canyon and Its Culture is confirmed for "History" and "Archaeology."

Checking on a book for Option A:

Panic in Level 4: Cannibals, Killer Viruses, and Other Journeys to the Edge of Science

It currently has "History" as a MPG, so it should work. But in case it didn't, I was also wondering if a genre of "Medical" worked for "Medicine".

The link to the nominations are to the polls. You get there by clicking on the categories under Option C.. The mods have wondrously set this up for us. Aren't they great?

In poking around, I find that most books which have "Medical" and not "Medicine" also have "Health" listed as a genre. This is not true in every case, but I do not think it is worth overburdening the mods with things to watch out for. So I am going to say that "Medical" does not work as a GR genre for Opt. A unless it has "Health" or "Medicine" embedded. Only:

"Medicine"
"Health"
"History"
"Archaeology" will work.

The book must be nonfiction, but the above genres may be embedded, such as "Science>Medicine" or "Medical>Health."

Because this bottle takes the form of a drinking glass, with the straw in it and the beverage clearly visible, I think it works. The mods might have something different to say, or I might have to reword before finalizing the task. But I do not want to get into OKing unopened bottles of wine, beer, or soda, so this has to be careful. I think for now, it's a go.

Can you please verify The Mind in the Cave: Consciousness and the Origins of Art for Archeology as it is close to the bottom of the MPG list.

Thanks for the question. In the first paragraph of the task I include the explanation:

"If the option requires a genre, it may be alone or imbedded."

This means that "History" can be imbedded in a larger phrase, such as "American History" as well as in subdivisions such as "WW II > History."

Ok thank you. I didn't realize that embedded also meant something like "American History" I had thought it just meant the subdivisions. Thanks for clarifying that point.

Your guess is correct. It's not really a "drinking glass." I do not want to get into O.K.ing bottles or other containers which are not open for drinking.
