message 1: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 4972 comments Hi everyone!

It's time to nominate for August and the theme is Royalty!

Please remember to state a connection to the theme when you nominate. Thank you :)

Here are some short rules for nominating books:

~ Each person can nominate 1 book.

~ Book must be available both as a physical copy and as an ebook.

~ Authors: Please do not nominate your own book.

~ Please include the name of the book and the author or link to the book.

~ Please do not nominate books that are part of a series, unless it is the first book.

~ You can second someone else's nomination, but that will count as your nomination.

~ When nominating, please state a connection to the theme.

~ You cannot nominate a book which has previously been a group read. Past buddy reads are fine. (See Group Reads in the bookshelf)

This thread will be closed by June 25th, and we will choose ten books for the poll. If there are more than ten books nominated, we will choose the ten most nominated. If there is still a tie to get into the top ten, we'll go back to the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ average rating to see which is highest.

Eileen | 190 comments I nominate The Winter Sea since the events take place during the Jacobite Rebellions :)

message 3: by Gabby (new)

Gabby (a_nerdy_bookworm) I nominate The Selection. It is about a girl who has been selected as the prince's possible bride.

RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) I nominate The Once and Future King (The Once and Future King #1-4) by T.H. White The Once and Future King by T.H. White, the classic telling of the King Arthur story.

I second this nomination! I'm interested in the Arthurian legends and this has been on my TBR for ages

message 8: by Ilona (last edited Jun 06, 2018 05:09AM) (new)

Ilona | 4698 comments I would like to nominate
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. It is the first book of The Kingkiller Chronicle series.

Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ blurb:
Told in Kvothe's own voice, this is the tale of the magically gifted young man who grows to be the most notorious wizard his world has ever seen.

The intimate narrative of his childhood in a troupe of traveling players, his years spent as a near-feral orphan in a crime-ridden city, his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a legendary school of magic, and his life as a fugitive after the murder of a king form a gripping coming-of-age story unrivaled in recent literature.

A high-action story written with a poet's hand, The Name of the Wind is a masterpiece that will transport readers into the body and mind of a wizard.

Vicky | 69 comments I nominate Battle Royale by Koushun Takami. Royale, royal, basically the same, right? ;)

message 10: by Michelle (last edited Jun 06, 2018 06:37AM) (new)

Michelle (michellebilodeau) | 28 comments I'm almost afraid to nominate this read (almost) but it is on my TBR list. Royally Screwed

It's about a spoiled prince who falls in love with a commoner, much to his royal families dismay.

message 11: by [deleted user] (last edited Jun 07, 2018 04:44PM) (new)

i nominate Furyborn

message 12: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Peterson | 117 comments I'd like to nominate The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory.

It is about Mary and Anne Boleyn who join the court of King Henry VIII.

This book shows up on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ as #9 of the series, but it was actually the first book published in the series and no other books need to be read previously.

message 13: by Ann (new)

Ann (hammiam) | 218 comments I would like to nominate Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard.

Mare Barrow's world is divided by blood—those with common, Red blood serve the Silver-blooded elite, who are gifted with superhuman abilities. Mare is a Red, scraping by as a thief in a poor, rural village, until a twist of fate throws her in front of the Silver court. Before the king, princes, and all the nobles, she discovers she has an ability of her own.

Winter (winter9) | 4972 comments So many great suggestions this month! It's very hard to choose, but I enjoyed Battle Royale a lot and I think many might not have read it so I will second that ^^
