Booknblues | 11701 comments I was excited about this month's tag of magical realism, but for some reason, I could not find a book to settle on and I started 3 or 4 before beginning Julia Fine's debut bookWhat Should Be Wild. Once started, I had to force myself to continue reading, as I just wasn't in the mood for reading it and this may be the reason for the three stars. I made myself finish reading it today, so I could make the June's tag.

What should be wild, is magical realism, fairytale, folk lore all woven together. Maisie Cothay is born with the gift of death and life in her touch. She is raised on an isolated estate by her father Peter and her Nanny, Mrs. Blott. Maisie is guarded carefully and doesn't have interactions with any outsiders....until she is forced to.

While this all sounds intriguing, I unfortunately did not find it so.

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8087 comments That is too bad! Like you, I find the premise totally intriguing (it kind of reminds me of Pushing Daisies, did you ever watch that?) but I am not encouraged to pick it up based on your average review.

Sometimes I get that way too though, I WANT to read a book, I may even be excited to read a certain GENRE of book, but I just can't find anything that captures my attention. Those book reviews definitely suffer from my bad reading mood.
