I recently added a number of editions of The Tempest and thought I was following policy by using the title as shown on the cover. Sometimes the titles are along the lines of "Shakespeare's Tempest" etc. I noticed that someone has gone through and modified a number of these titles to remove the mention of Shakespeare from the title. The policy seems pretty clear and does not note an exception when the author's name is included as part of the title. Should it have been assumed or were the titles correct as entered?

I would assume a title such as "Shakespeare's Tempest" would be about The Tempest rather than being The Tempest itself.

Not necessarily. And not in these cases specifically otherwise they'd be independent works. However there is usually an editor and some notes or introductory text.

The author's name is removed from the title.

As far as I know, policy is still to use the title as it is listed on the cover.

A lot of public domain books are imported with titles like title by author in the title field; where the cover only has title on the cover. In those cases, the author name has to be removed from the title field.

When the cover shows the title as author's title, as far as I know that's still how it should be listed in the title field.
