It's time for the July wrap-up! Feel free to comment here and let us know how your reading went this month, if you had trouble completing this month's task, if you enjoyed the book you read and whether you'd recommend it.

Jessica | 4 comments Miss Buncle's Book was SO fun! 100 recommend for the summer! Reading the sequel now :)

Kristen Ashley | 25 comments Mary Poppins was a sweet read. Did anyone else read it?

Eve (eveofrevolution) | 123 comments I read Howl's Moving Castle. It was just okay, I found it a bit hard to follow and the plot just kind of drifted from one event to the next instead of seeming like there was a purpose behind it. I saw the movie about a year ago but had only seen it once so I didn't remember a lot. Then I went back and rewatched the movie and wow, they really did change a lot (and not always for the better), but the meandering plot was consistent.

I'm not sure which I like better, they both have some value but ultimately are not things I'll revisit a lot in the future.

susan | 53 comments I read/listened to The Convenient Marriage narrated by Richard Armitage - the romance is probably my least fave Heyer to date but the side comedy plot and Richard Armitage's voice ohhhhhh man A+

and I reread Howl's Moving Castle for the first time since I was 11, and still really liked it! It was easy and charming and silly - but yeah, it totally does just drift around seemingly unconnected for the most part lol.

Undine | 84 comments I read Murder on the Orient Express for written in 1934, and The Dark Lord of Derkholm for born in 1934. It’s not my favorite DWJ book, but still a good parody of high fantasy novels and rpgs.

message 7: by Anthony (new)

Anthony (anthh) I read The Postman Always Rings Twice. It was a quick read and I enjoyed it. Found myself wondering why I was rooting for the main characters when they were terrible people.

I'm also about to finish Howl's Moving Castle since I had put it on hold. I'm liking it a lot and will need to see the movie based on it.

Agreed! It was nutty and cute all at the same time. It took me a while to get through because it was really slow at the beginning and the perspective changing so violently but I'm glad I stuck with it.

Sophie I read Three Act Tragedy which was ok, I was disappointed in the lack of Poirot and wasn't as interested in the other detectives.

I am super late but I'm just getting around to do this month's challenge. I read The Convenient Marriage by Georgette Heyer. I didn't like it, but I had low expectations for it so I'm not disappointed. It's not one of her most popular books. I know there were other titles this month that I was probably going to enjoy a lot more, but as a big Heyer fan, I want to go through her backlist and I figured this was as good an opportunity as any. Possibly this book is much better in audio form, as at least you get Richard Armitage narrating, and it's abridged.

Sasha | 104 comments Adding this so I can see which challenges I've completed. I read A Man Lay Dead. I love golden age of mystery novels. I had to go back and look at my review and I mostly enjoyed it, minus one part that I wish was removed in modern reprintings. Definitely not the golden age of mystery novel I'd rec if you were new to the genre.

oh my god i FINALLY finished something for this challenge! i wanted to finish before the end of the year but then i had family come visit and had no time to read lol.

i decided to go with I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream: Stories by Harlan Ellison who was born in 1934. If the collection wasn't so misogynistic I would have loved it. The stories had interesting premises and the writing was generally good (especially the title story) but the women characters were treated just horribly. I couldn't ignore that so I only gave the collection 2 stars.
