The poll results are in and the winner is......Mythology. Hope you all enjoy the shelf! Can't wait to see what everyone is reading!

After a quick look at the list, I see a few books that I might choose. I would love to say that I will finally seriously attack The Mists of Avalon as I love everything Arthurian, but it is such a huge book, I doubt I would get it read. I might go for Daughter of Smoke & Bone instead as it has been sitting on my bookshelf for far too long.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 1268 comments I am going to try for The Lost Hero or The Goddess Test. I have to see which one is available at my library.

Karin Aargh! Well, I happen to be listening to an audiobook that has been shelved this 25 times and I won't be finished until August, so it's going to be Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell.

Otherwise, nothing. My mythology reading days are long gone for the most part and I have a large pile of non-mythology books here for August already. If I were in the mood to read Snorri Sturluson I'd read one of his books. That said, if it turns out something I am going to read fits this, I'll post it.

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 603 comments I'm not sure what I'll read. I have several books that are on the shelf so I guess it will depend on what kind of mood I'm in.

Right now I've got:

The Hobbit
First Frost & Touch of Frost
Grave Mercy
The Battle of the Labyrinth

that will be easy to get and have been on my TBR for some time. So, I'll likely see which one or ones of those I'm in the mood for.

message 6: by Robin (new)

Robin A Not sure if I will get time as August is a busy month, but because my son is always taking about this and I had never heard of it I'm going to try Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman

message 7: by CluckingBell (new)

CluckingBell | 327 comments Well, I'm reading The Dispossessed for Bookopoly in August, and one person has shelved it as mythology. I've got The Mere Wife on hold at the library; it might come up in time, too. I thought I was on the waitlist for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, but I wasn't, so I know that won't come up in time.

Marina (sonnenbarke) | 1507 comments Mmmm, August is going to be a busy month (I'll be moving to a new apartment), and with the heat I'm not sure I will be up to reading much mythology. However, Metamorphoses by Ovid has been waiting on my Kindle for a long time - I might try it but I'm unsure I'll be able to read it through because I've noticed that the translation is very old and doesn't seem very readable at all. Otherwise I might want to try The Lightning Thief or The Penelopiad. Or maybe something else entirely :D

I think I am going with Gods Behaving Badly.

message 10: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Zaccaria American Gods by Neil Gaiman is really good and I recommend it!

I'm going to read The Dark Wife and if I can fit in another, either Circe or Norse Mythology.

I've had The Black Tides of Heaven on my list, so I'll start with that.

message 12: by Tamara (new)

Tamara | 10 comments Into the Drowning Deep (Rolling in the Deep, #1) by Mira Grant by Mira Grant for me

message 13: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary | 945 comments I wasn't expecting that to win the poll!

But I do have something on my TBR for this month: Girl Meets Boy by Ali Smith.

I LOVED this book. It's more science/sci-fi than myth but it's really good.

Jamie Zaccaria Some recommendations for people looking:

American Gods (excellent adult drama that mixes mythology from around the world)

Nobody's Princess (fun YA option)

Helen of Troy (biographical fiction-esque)

Wonder Woman, Volume 1: Blood (for graphic novel lovers)

I love Margaret George's writing and have Helen of Troy on my list, but her books are always so HUGE.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1217 comments I've been wanting to continue Elisabeth Naughton's series based on Greek mythology so I will read Twisted (Eternal Guardians, #7) by Elisabeth Naughton

Christina (cmb1987) | 161 comments I'm going to be reading The Darkest Craving (Lords of The Underworld #10) by Gena Showalter this month. Been meaning to get to it forever.

Alixendra (travel_bug) | 16 comments I am for sure going to power through all of Neil Gaiman. He's amazing and I have yet to read his Norse mythology book.
