Samantha Ste Marie (samanthastemarie) Hey everyone, my name is Samantha and I will be your discussion leader this month as we talk about Sky In The Deep.
I’d like to start things off with some initial thoughts about the book. Does anyone have any initial opinions or feelings towards the book as whole?
Would love to hear them!

stardustreader | 15 comments I'm really excited to read it! There's a lot of hype surrounding it, which makes me weary but the premise seems great. I'm going to be loosely reading it as I included it in my tbr on a whim if that's fine with everybody. Can't wait to see what everyone thinks :)

Of course that's fine!! And if anyone else is in the same boat, don't worry at all!

Ericka Rheanne (erickarheanne) | 2 comments I'm really excited to read it and am going into this with high expectations because vikings and a lot of what the plot includes is not something typically seen in YA. It's a new concept and I really like when YA branches out to things beyond what anyone's done before. I'm ready to read it!

Samantha Ste Marie (samanthastemarie) Hey readers!
I wanted to get your thoughts on the first few chapters of this book. It starts off strong with a battle, which is, in my opinion, quite uncommon. I’m personally a big fan of starting off with some action. What do you think?

Athena | 38 comments I wasn't as present as I could have been with the book starting off with a battle scene, since I didn't know any of the characters. I didn't care of the outcome yet. Maybe a little heart to heart with a few of the characters just before the battle would have been better? The book got better, in my opinion, when Eelyn saw her dead brother. Which happened fairly quickly.

Amelia Majors (amelia_majors) Okay so I just got the book yesterday and I'm already in chapter 12. Normally I'm not one for immediate action to take place on the first chapter before getting to know the characters first, but for me it really paid off.

Athena | 38 comments One thing that I really did appreciate about this book is how Eelyn's shoulder injury affected her. Usually, especially in fantasy, character will get stabbed in the shoulder or side and still be running around every where like nothing happened. Either that, or they drop dead right then and there at the time of the injury. But Eelyn's shoulder injury affected her throughout the book, and that made the whole story a lot more realistic to me.

TheYALibrarian | 149 comments I read this book in audio form and I plowed right through it in a matter of days I didn't want to stop! I loved Eelyn she is a fighter through and through and we know that at the very beginning of the novel since it starts with a battle. There was also a great slow romance that I appreciated on top of the big plot of (view spoiler). I can't wait to meet the author next month and tell her how much I loved it :)

Farren (mmmcookies) | 306 comments This was so impressive for a debut novel, definitely an author to look out for in the future. I struggle with historical fiction, but I thought the book was written in a way that I could get a good sense of their world without ending up being confused or bored by too many facts. I also listened to the audiobook because I'm a fan of Khristine Hvam and it was very enjoyable. It did take me a bit to get invested in the story, probably around the time Eelyn is taken to Fiske's village and put up for trade.
