R. Jackson-Lawrence | 54 comments Had an Email from amazon today regarding the request to make the book free. Here it is-

Thank you for contacting KDP Support; I hope this e-mail finds you well!

I understand you'd like to set your titles " PUPS - The Case Of The Horrifying Headmaster " and "Knightfall" permanently for free in the Kindle Store.

Since Kindle Direct Publishing is a *free* self-publishing platform (meaning you can publish your books at no cost), it's not currently possible to list your books for free permanently. Though you may find some eBooks offered for free on the store, I'd like to highlight that most of those books were published via other -possibly paid- platforms, separate from KDP.

I apologize if this causes you an inconvenience or disappointment. Even so, though your book can't be set at the price of $0.00, I saw you've taken advantage of the 35% royalty option and you've lowered your prices down to $0.99. That's exactly the first step I suggest my authors to follow! Furthermore, if you re-enroll your titles in KDP Select, you may continue setting up free book promotions in order to boost your sales as you've done in the past!

To be even more successful, I'd kindly recommend to feature your promotions using your own Facebook page or Twitter profile. That way you'll let your readers know your books are being offered at a discounted price, while also attracting new fans to your series!

~ Below, I'm including very helpful links that will show you all details about KDP Select and Free Book Promotions:

I really hope this information helps, I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but I greatly appreciate your kind understanding on this matter.

If you have any other question, you can count on us by either replying directly to this e-mail or accessing our Contact Us page!

Thanks for using Amazon KDP.

Regards,

Does anyone know what these 'other -possibly paid- platforms' are and how to take advantage of them?

Thanks!

Brian Basham (brianbasham) | 390 comments Gah! Bisky stole my lime.. er.. line.. or maybe both. Wattpad has millions of readers. It's a good place to connect with a lot of younger readers.

Kandie (kankan929) | 36 comments This may have already been answered, but I'm at work and unable to read every single post that came through my digest (69 of them). So if this has already been mentioned. Apologies. At one time, when I was doing research for Amazon, I think I read at that if you price your book at 0.00 like on Smashwords, Amazon and B&N will eventually follow suit because part of their policy is to have the book the same "price" across the board, so pricing it at 0.00 on a retailer's site that allows that forces them to comply.

I also think that KDP restricts the 0.00 pricing in order to push their other platforms like KDP Select, Prme, and Unlimited, which allow you to price it a 0.00 for limited times in promos.

If I'm off-base or if any of this has been "updated" in the last 6 months please advise.
