John | 3877 comments One post per member per week in this folder beginning each Monday morning, as I am concerned about crowding so that some offers get lost.

In addition to this notice, there will be one warning; there will be no second warning.

Do not post in this thread about your available books, but create a post in the folder!

Jun Prince (authorjunprince) | 26 comments By post do you mean new thread or comments? As a content provider, I usually have some discussion with people in the comments when they request codes.

message 3: by John, Moderator (new)

John | 3877 comments Followup remarks are fine; I meant new, original, self-generated content.

Awesome. Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't sure since following up bumps a post.

Michael Colburn (mcolburn) | 2 comments I am completely new to this. What "folder" do we create a promo offer in

Please go to Commercial Area 2019 and read the "folder rules" thread - thank you.

Michael Colburn (mcolburn) | 2 comments Can you direct me to this. I have searched the site and find nothing entitled commercial area 2019 or folder rules. I may be dense or blind but I cannot find.

John | 3877 comments Sorry, I may not have understood that you were offering copies; I had it in mind you wanted to mention a book, which is different. If you are interested in review (promo) copies of your work, start a new thread in this similar to existing ones.

Juli (juli_d_revezzo) | 2 comments @John, hi, I've never posted my audiobooks here before, (just lurked for what to read next! :)) so, I'm not sure I understand. You say: "One post per member per week in this folder beginning each Monday morning"

Does that mean we can only post a review codes offer on Monday morning? Thanks for your help!

message 10: by John, Moderator (new)

John | 3877 comments No, it means that whenever you post during the week, Monday is the earliest you can post again. One post per week that can be done anytime - clearer?

message 11: by Juli (new)

Juli (juli_d_revezzo) | 2 comments I see. Thanks for clearing that up for me, John. I understand now. :)

Jim Lyon (jimlyon) | 190 comments John,

Whatever your motivation was when you implemented the rule of only four promotional posts per month per member, either activity in the group has dropped significantly or you have inadvertently discouraged authors and publishers from offering free audiobooks here.

So you don't think that I'm talking in generalities, consider the number of promotional posts per moth so far this year (2022):

Jan 11
Feb 7
March 3
April 8
May 6
June 6
July 11
August 1
September 9
October 9
YTD 71

It would seem that members would be better served with a more relaxed limit or no limit at all. Your original decision to limit the number of posts was well-intended, but apparently things have changed since then to the detriment of group members. I would suggest that you consider allowing one post per day, perhaps on a trial basis, to see whether or not it becomes problematic. I think members would prefer having more opportunities to receive promo codes, and would be willing to scroll down a bit more to do so, or pay attention to the daily news letter from Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ to see what new opportunities there are here.

Regards, Jim

John | 3877 comments Thank you for taking the time out to write, but am not planning to change this in the near future.

Dee (austhokie) | 1910 comments @Jim - i can say as a non-author group member we appreciate the free from spam approach that John has implemented - measure of activity within a group shouldn't solely be based on promotional posts but rather other activity

the monthly currently listening posts tend to average 170ish posts per month; audible daily deals 30 per month(ish) etc

additionally, looking at your profile - probably 90% of the 140ish posts you have made in the group have been advertising - which means you just see us as a potential source of income and not actually interested in posting about listening to audiobooks

Thank you. Much appreciated.

Robin P | 1642 comments I completely agree with John. More promotional posts would not be a benefit for our members. There may be other groups or websites that are specifically set up for that purpose, but our members mainly want to discuss books, narrators, sales from major vendors, technical issues, etc. Allowing limited posts in designated threads is a way to accommodate authors while not overwhelming our members with advertising.

Jim Lyon (jimlyon) | 190 comments As they say, it's your sandbox so we'll play by your rules. To clarify, my posts are primarily to offer free audiobooks to people who might be interested in posting a review somewhere. I fail to see how that is contrary to the group's raison d'etre. Anyone not interested in availing themselves of the opportunity can just ignore it without being sullied. I wouldn't want the group to be primarily commercial in nature, but it needn't be disdainful of those who write, produce and publish in the literary medium you enjoy. Offering free promo codes is essentially the same as posting the Daily Deals, for which there are US and UK posts virtually every day. Perhaps the group should limit the Daily Deals to four posts a month if it doesn't want commercialism to infect it.

Jim
