Harry Hole series by Jo Nesbo
Another Harry Hole mystery! I am not sure how cozy it can be since most of the books are real page turners.
Will be starting today. And anyone interested can join in!

Reached mid of chapter 7. The deduction in the suicide case was good. The other thread, I am patiently waiting..

I dont know why I am so wary of Nesbo. Reading slowly.

1991 - A rape in Norway and the Yugoslavian war
2003 - The guy involved in the Y war kills some1 involved with the rape.
Beate and Harry disagree about the photos. There is another twist which I am not disclosing. Nesbo is definitely not short of tricks. As Kareena Kapoor said in "Jab We Met"
"Babaji ab is raat mein aur koi excitement mat dena..."
Please dont add more threads and mess it up. Seems to be going perfectly well :)
Haha! in chapter 10 where the murder has just happened..
And I agree - Jo nesbo almost always tries to pull a rabbit out of the hat (followed by a giraffee and a rhinoceros) in the early parts of the book..

Oh wow! I am Still around 40%. Slowed down around the part into the back story of Jon's promiscuous companion..
Glad you loved it!

I will need another day or two before I can be done with this one. I would want to start Snowman, but I don't have a copy with me. Earliest I can start is next weekend.
You can carry on since you have already got the copy..

Had a busy weekend where I couldn't be seen with a physical book. The suspense killing me, I had to continue with an audiobook (of a different book) smiling at guests, sometimes pretending like I was on a con-call..
Anyways at 65%. The Hotel International link seemed too opportune to my liking. Most of the other revelations were more plausible.

Cool. Will try to get my hands on a copy soon

Finished! Loved it. Glad to know no disappointments.
If I were to nitpick:
- Did find the side story around Ragnihild slightly over the top. Even her husband angle was a bit needlessly creepy.
- Begs why for Halvorsen and Beate track.
A convincing read. Let me try to get the Snowman Kindle version and we can start.

BTW, I have started with “Occupation - a Norwegian show on Netflix which is “based on an idea by Nesbo.
I have heard about the series. In my long list of series to watch.
There are two standalone books of Jo Nesbo - Macbeth and The Son both of which are mouth watering. Will pick it up sometime in between.

In chapter 4.. maybe it's since I just finished one at a breakneck pace, the early chapters I'm finding a bit tedious.. The mountain top murder for example - the story of the policeman was so slow I paused twice..
Hope it picks up pace.
Hope it picks up pace.

Finished chapter 11 and I understand what you mean. I liked the crying wolf reference to serial killer.
Also knowing the profile of the murder victims, I am worried for Harry. It seems very worrying to in Harry's circle..

Same here.. Around 60% and somehow did not get swayed by the earlier attempted distractions.
Reading them back to back, you are more aware of the tricks the author uses maybe?

Possibly yes. I will be taking a break from Nesbo. This was my 5th book by him in the past 2 months !

Me too. though I might venture into some of his non-Harry Hole books.. I've heard from friends on GR they are pretty good too!

Exactly reached that part. Compulsive but I did expect that since they talked about a daughter.. Did not expect the murder attempt though..

I have read mysteries lacking one genuine twist, one good red herring. And here is Nesbo with a problem of plenty. Actually, a problem. Still, an enjoyable read in the second half.

Oh great! Will try to complete it tonight. Since you have completed the nagging question since I read it is the tip off about the poison and the batch mate.. which is why I said I am worried for Harry.. but the pest control also didn't make sense(rooting for this)
Hope this book doesn't end

Finished. Didn't like it as much. I almost saw through most of the red herrings. I could not forgive how he couldn't make the connection immediately after they disproved the suicide angle! And Pest control, I am guessing has a role to play in his next book.

I am a big Stieg Larsson fan and hence Jo Nesbo is my TBR for a long time. I just have one question for you guys. I am planning to read the Harry Hole series so will you recommend to read it in order or it can be read randomly?

So books 1 & 2 can be skipped altogether or do they have to be read later?

Girish has read both and can comment better.
BTW, Girish are you in the mood to resume with #8 (Leopard) ?

Hi Ankit, Jo Nesbo is a lot of fun. To start the series book 1 and 2 can be skipped. #2 is a better outing than 1. Hope you like it.
Sure Arvind! We can do Leopard from next week?

Thanks I will start from book 3 then
Hi Arvind. I could not get my hands in Leopord yet. Can we do the BR in March? will try to get it in the meantime.
If you are a Nesbo fan, do join in. I think this book can be read, even if you havent read some/all of the previous Harry Hole books.
