There has been a noticable decrease in participation in our nominated/voted/selected group reads for the last several discussions. So instead of continuing to try again going that route, I would like to encourage members to suggest "buddy reads" here on the group, to give everyone a chance to read things they are interested in, and to maybe get a few different "Buddy Reads" going through the fall.

We have a whole section of this group separated out for "Buddy Reads" so I would like to encourage and welcome anyone interested in participating to visit that opening thread, and throwing some books out there!

Petra I'll throw one out there:

Is anyone interested in reading Jamaica Inn by Daphne du Maurier?

Jamaica Inn by Daphne du Maurier

message 3: by Irene (new)

Irene | 4519 comments I already read Jamaica Inn. Thought it was good.

Does anyone want to read The English Patient by Michael Ondaajhe?

I would be willing to join in on either Jamaica Inn or The English Patient! (as long as they are not at the same time! LOL)

Anyone else interested in either of these?

message 5: by Petra (new)

Petra Sheila, I've just started reading Jamaica Inn. Would you like to join me in a buddy read?

Sorry, but I don't have a copy. I didn't order one as there were no other comments of interest....

message 7: by Petra (new)

Petra I'm sorry to hear this but understand completely.
It has been slow here lately in terms of interest in buddy or group reads.

If anyone reads this: what would encourage or entice you to join a buddy or group read?

message 8: by Irene (new)

Irene | 4519 comments I try to join in the group reads here if I can find the book on loan. Once in a while, I skip the group read, either because I have already read the book or because I can tell by the book description that I will probably dislike it and I don't want to drag down the conversation. So, what would entice me? A book that I could get on loan and that I had not already read, and that did not fall into one of the categories I dislike such as the occult or sweet romance.

Jennifer W | 2175 comments Hi ladies! I miss my COL reading buddies!! I'm trying to get back into reading more regularly as I adapt to life with a small human in my house (sometimes I'm still mystified as to how she got there, lol!).

If someone wants a very slow reading buddy, I'm happy to try and join in with some books. I'm currently working on Nefertiti and The River Wife.

I recently tore through The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle and would LOVE to discuss it with someone.

Miss you ladies!! Hope you're all well!!

Irene | 4519 comments I read the 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle not too long ago. It was different. I am not a fan of the fantastic or time travel or that sort of thing. So, the fact that it kept my interest is a compliment to that book.

How far are you into The River Wife. It looks like I can borrow a copy of that one, so I could read it with you. But, I have several that I need to get to first. Unless, by a slow reading pace, you mean slow enough that I can just do this on top of others I am reading. Not sure how slow your slow is.

Jennifer W | 2175 comments I loved 7 1/2 Deaths! I managed to eek out enough reading time to get through it in less than 2 weeks, which is more in line with my old reading life!

I'm only through chapter 2 on The River Wife, about 35 pages. I think it's taken me a week to get that far, so that's kinda my pace at the moment.

message 12: by Irene (new)

Irene | 4519 comments OK, I will join you on that one. I'll let you know when I have it and started reading. If you are only doing 20 pages a week, I should be able to catch up quickly.

Jennifer W | 2175 comments Cool, yay!
